I have not been here in awhile, but some of the older members will remember my beautiful Autumn that we adopted from DCIN 4.5 years ago. When we adopted her she has been left untreated for over a year by her previous owner. And to say she was a train wreck back then would be an under statement. But with home testing, a proper diet and insulin she lead a very happy and healthy life for all of the time that she was our girl. While she remained insulin dependent she was still a wonderfully healthy and beautiful cat. Sadly in August we learned when she had to have all her teeth removed that she was in the beginning stages of kidney failure, and yesterday it was very apparent that her age, nearly 20 years old, and the kidney disease was catching up to her. So this morning with heavy hearts we gave her, her angel wings and released her from her failing body. The one thing that did not take her from our arms was diabetes. She was in fact an ancient girl when we gave her the last gift of love we could give her. At the time of her passing all her vitals, heart, lungs, blood sugar etc were perfect, she was still peeing, pooping, preening and purring (she had retired from playing some time ago). But to continue to fight against the failing kidneys would have only been to buy us a few more months with her and not in her best interest.

And this was her when we gave her, her angel wings today.

If I am not mistaken I believe that she was the last living cat from the old Levemir ISG.

What a beautiful kitty. She was so lucky that she found you. You gave her a loving home and she lived to a ripe old age. Still it is painful when you have to say goodbye.When my Greylie's kidney failure got worse and he lost his appetitite. I decided to let him go and he was 19 years and 8 months... I know it was time but I still miss him and at the same time I am so grateful that he stayed with me for such a long time.

You had pulled off a miracle with Autumn and she in turn was so lucky to have been loved by you. I am so sorry for your loss but you have done a very kind and loving thing by not allowing her to suffer. She lived a good life with you and your family and she lived a lot longer because of you - until you meet again - I wish you peace.

((((Mel)))), Autumn, that beautiful old gal, is flying free on her new golden wings and sending you her thanks for making the last 4.5 years the best years of her life. :rb_icon:The gang at the Bridge welcomes her and cherishes her until that fine day when you will meet again.

We are so sorry for your loss,
In deepest sympathy,

Fly free, sweet, precious Autumn, and land softly.

I am so very, very sorry to hear of this sad news. You have given her a very loving, warm, kind, caring home, and opened your hearts to her, and cared for her in the way that she should've been cared for from the beginning. Please accept my condolences for your loss. You, and your family, are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry Mel. I did not know you, or Autumn, but I can see that she had a wonderful life to live out with you, and you did wonders for her. I'm sure she knew she was lucky to have found you :) Many hugs and vines and purrs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Aine I knew you had not been on the computer for some time so don't feel bad about missing her start of her next grand adventure..I knew the day I adopted her that our time together would be short since she was an old lady when she joined our family. And she lived long enough for me to fulfill my promise to her the day we met. That day I promised to make her beautiful again and that she would finally know what it was like to be truly loved and cherished, which she did. And I also promised her that I would never let her suffer again, so if the time came that I could no longer keep her happy, healthy and comfortable I would let her go with dignity...Again I upheld that promise as much as in that letting go my own heart shattered but because of her leaving me I was able to save Quillan. So her legacy lives on.

@MommaOfMuse -

Boy, oh boy! did you keep your promise, Mel. I am very, very sad that you and Miss Autumn have had to part ways, but I also celebrate the love you both shared for those few short years you had together; more love than many ever experience in decades.

(((Mel & Spirit Autumn)))
