I have the cat mate 500 and it worked great for 2 weeks but then Kitty Cat flipped it over and got water into it and it stopped working. So I got a replacement from Chewy and tested it right away (without the food or the cat) but it has the same problem of only rotating the tiniest bit or not rotating at all. I know what it's SUPPOSED to look like since the first one worked fine. Chewy is sending ANOTHER replacement and hopefully third time is the charm.

Has anyone else experienced this with the cat mate 500? Or is there another automatic feeder with ice packs you suggest? I use it to feed Kitty Cat small portions through the night so I don't have to wake up every 3 hours to screaming cat.

(Sorry if this isn't an appropriate question for the group! Not sure who else to ask.)

I just got the same one. I’ve used it for 2 days with no trouble. I can see where she’s scratching the white top though!

Hi Christina,

Perfectly appropriate question. :)

I've used several timed feeders. The Petsafe 5 is quite weighty, particularly with the four large batteries it uses, so it would take some fair effort to flip it. I found it to be the most burgle-proof of all the feeders I've used.

I love my C500 - no issues for me. I have heard the PetSafe5 that Mogs recommended used by a lot of people - I think the main difference from C500 is no ice packs so people do frozen cat food or add in an ice cube (or don't care which is cool too).

@JaxBenji -

You can get ice packs for the Petmate 5 but only part of the feeder tray will be directly over it. As you say, Susanne, added ice cubes/catsicles can be used for the later feeds if required. I found the

Oh that's right - thanks for clarifying! I do remember reading that when I was shopping around (well, really there are just two option that I found lol - C500 or the Petsafe5). C500 has two ice packs that are curved that keep all sections cool.

I've been putting ice cubes in anyway so that wouldn't be a bad option for me. The second replacement is coming today so hopefully it works!! I can't believe the first replacement didn't work out of the box. I sent chewy a video of it and they said they haven't had any issues like this, will send another replacement, but if that one still doesn't work, I'll just get a refund and try a different one.

AHHH I dont understand! this THIRD feeder has the same problem! It only rotates the tiniest bit. Sign, I'm so disappointed since it seems like a really good feeder with lots of great reviews. I hope none of you have this problem!

Petsafe 5 owner here. I don't use ice packs in mine. I put a small amount of water in each meal. I put food in feeder at 11:30 pm. Feeder is set for 12:30, 3:30, 6:30 am. Sometimes they don't eat the 3:30. None of it is ever dried out.

Thank you Mogs :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:!

In a turn of events, the first replacement is now working! The other two still don't work though. We'll see how long this lasts. Maybe I can get some sleep tonight.

I have used a Cat Mate C20 for years (it's the two serving feeder with ice packs). Don't use it daily, I only used it when I DH and I would be gone to a concert or something.
Katie would start pawing at it the moment I would put it down, even though I always fed her before leaving. I have a security cam to keep on eye on her when we are gone and have watched her, she just wouldnt leave it alone.
What I did, I put the feeder on a large cutting board (a tray would work also), and used heavy duty velcro to secure the feeder to the board. She couldnt flip the feeder and I can still remove the feeder to wash/ change batteries, etc.

If you are feeding canned food overnight (not raw), there's no need to keep it cold during the night. It's not going to spoil in that short period. (Or during the course of a day if you put it out in the morning...) So personally, I wouldn't worry about finding one with the ice pack capability, since that's a limiting factor on the selection available.
