Bandit thinks he's a raccoon, so we went through him ripping apart several feeders, including the Petsafe 5, until we settled on
This One. I've had it for about 4-5 years now, and it's still going strong. I like that it has a voice recording and a compartment for an ice pack (for when I forget to freeze food). My boyfriend complains that it's difficult to learn how to program at first, but I never had a problem figuring it out. But I'm also handy with electronics. It's programmable by any round hour for up to 24 hrs. So if you want to program it for say, 2 am, you need to make sure you turn it on at the beginning of an hour (any hour), because if you turn it on 1:30, the first hr you could program it for would be 2:30, the next 3:30, etc.
It's plastic, too, and I make little tin-foil bowls to put the food in. Not because Bandit has a problem with feline acne, but because I'm lazy and don't want to take it apart to clean it every time.
Bandit is the only cat I've heard of here that destroyed the PetSafe, so if your cat is not super mischievous, then I wouldn't be concerned about that.
