Hi everyone

I continue to check Aurora 1x per week on sundays and she continues to have great OTJ numbers!
She’s always had issues with really dirty ears and often the vet has oput her in tresederm. I purchased an ear cleaner which I out in some small paper towel pieces and clean her ears afew Times a week. Tonight they were really brown and yucky. I have tresederm in the fridge and would like to treat her for a week but I’m worried with it having a steroid that I could mess things up for her remission. But, what other options are there if she needs treatment?

Hey there! So glad that Aurora continues to have good numbers. I am not sure about the Tresaderm and if it will raise the numbers or not so hopefully someone will weigh in.. Besides them being brown and gunky does she appear to be scratching at her ears as if they are bothering her? Maybe they could just be dirty but not infected?

My civvie gets gunky ears too and has had a few ear infections. His one vet told me to use equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl with a cotton ball that is saturated with the solution then wring out the excess and wipe out the ears. Which reminds me that I need to do that for him soon.

I like Bobbie's suggestion. Try that and see if it helps before you try the Tresaderm. I remember Aurora's numbers went up when you used it before.

Aurora looks great! I love her picture in the OTJ videos now because she has a tiara on! :D:D

Carfurby recommended Zymox without hydrocortisone to me for Felix, and it has been helpful. He's had a couple ear infections in the last year, and they did drive his BG up. Zymox also makes an ear cleanser for maintenance (maybe that's what you're using). After using the ear cleanser on one of our civvies, I saw brown gunk more toward the tips of her ears a few days later, like it helped work the stuff out. I wouldn't be surprised if Bobbie's vinegar remedy wouldn't be just as good for maintenance, though.

So happy Aurora continues to have such good BG numbers. :cat:

Thanks everyone! I would say she’s not picking at her ears at all but she does when I clean them then she will literally have her ear almost down on the floor and pawing at it. Maybe I can try the zymox. Yes it’s true the tresederm always drove up her numbers when she was on it.

Sometimes cleaning only is not enough as you need to treat the reason like ear mites or yeast i fection. Meme had a bacterial infection and i had to use a medication that contain steroid which make her numbers really high after well regulation but once i stopped the treatment she came down fast. If the infection is back again and again then you have to look for the readon and treat it.
