so, Sammy jumped up high again last night, so I have now decided to get consistant with a drop every 12 hours until she gets over this pancreatitus, so shows me some super duper numbers. She cant get better if her BG keeps going up to the stratosphere every 24 hours.

So, for now at least, I have a cat back on insulin. Oh well, it was nice having 5 months off!

Re: Aug 28 Sammy AMPS 190

Wish I could help with the p-titis but absolutely no experience with it except I know you have to watch the fat content of their food.

Sorry you had a lousy experience with the vet yesterday unfortunately there seems to be a lot of them out there when it comes to FD. At least I'm blessed that mine are honest that they don't know jack about it and are slowly learning from me. But boy we've had a couple heated discussions about drug choices. Lol

After 4 years they know I have done my research and will present them with reams of reading material on why and why not I want what I want for a particular issue. Around here there aren't a lot of options for vets so you pick the best and pray.

Sammy may always be a micro-dose kitty or we may get to throw her another party but hey there are worse things than a couple little shots a day as payment for a lifetime of unconditional love.

So, took Sammy back to Dr Dum Dum late today. He called me, concerned that I was not providing proper nutrition for Sammy , and that was the cause of all her issues.

Wanted to have her weighed, if she was signifigantly lighter compared to 6 days ago that would validate that i am not providing for her properly. \

Oh boy, Dr Dum Dum, did you buy yourself a heap of pain with that comment. Took my cat, and my spreadsheet, and my printouts of the food data and off I went.

Sammy weighs about 2 oz diff that a week ago, and on a diff scale. When the doc said that she was lighter, I looked him straight in the eye and said yeah, she is, she peed just before we left the house. Point for me.

Then he thought she was allergic to the food I am feeding (FF Turkey and Giblets). Wanted to put her on a expensive Rx one. Okay, says i , which one? Well, lets consider Hills Z/O (or whatever it was, I dont recall exactly). Okay, I say. Lets just check this out... look at the printout ... hey doc, why the heck would I feed a diet controlled diabetic cat something that is 32% carbs?

Oh. ok, lets try this...
and on the dance went... I humored him for 5 or 6 choices, then said, first off, Doc, not ever going to feed dry food again, so dont even go there... second, the wet Rx stuff you have suggested I wont allow for either of my cats. So, please.. can we start again? please check her remaining teeth for issues, or another infection. I have said repeatedly that I think she has a fever, and you people keep saying its cause she is hiding in small spaces.

Sheesh. Sure enough, her teeth are okay, but she has a fever. Now on antibiotics.

then Dr Dum Dum gives me chapter and verse on pilling the cat, and particularly tells me I can bring her in for them to do it once a day if I need to..... uh, no not going to pay you 15 bucks for that, sorry!.

Here is the best part... get home, take out the pill. Rub it in some cheese. Rub some treats in same cheese. hold my hand out with all of them on it.... Sammy gobbled them all up in 5 seconds. So much for having problems pilling a cat., lol. Sometimes the easiest way is indeed the easiest way.

What antibiotics did genius boy put her on? And did he tell you the source of the infection?

omg linda. that vet would frustrate the crap out of me !!! sorry u had to see him again.

Linda - I could feel my blood pressure rising just reading about Dr. Dum Dum! :-x Makes me wanna scream!

Sending good thoughts for Sammy and hoping she feels better SOON!!

Well i guess the vets name really fit, in danish Dum means stupid, so Dr.stupid stupid should have a slap in the face with a chair :-D
Hope Sammy gets better soon.

His name is actually Dr Dohl.

Dr Dum Dum is my 'affectionate" pet name (no pun intended) for him.

She is on Robax. Dont know exactly what infection we are treating, but we know she had elevated WBC and a fever, and elevated BG, so treating with antibiotics seems a good course of action.

He also dropped the conversation with me that it is impossible to give a "drop" of insulin. I think he knows I will do what I think best on that one.

Hon are you sure its Robax because that isn't an antibiotic, its a pain killer/muscle relaxer?

Lol whew! Had me worried there for a moment. Really was beginning to think that vet graduated at the bottom of his class lol. Because Robax is what I take for muscle spasms in my back.
