Fado and Cumbia
New Member
Hello everyone! It's been a while since my last post here, but fortunately, that's because Fado has been relatively stable. However, I have a new concern and would love to hear your thoughts or advice.
Fado's glucose levels have stayed under 120 for the past year—she hasn’t needed insulin for a while—and her last annual check-up went well. However, as always, she continues to battle her chronic allergies, leading to frequent ear and eye infections. Up until June, her medication regimen was as follows:
About four weeks ago (on September 14), she was prescribed Atopica 50 mg tablets, and we discontinued Apoquel. For the first two weeks, she took both Atopica and prednisolone nightly, with Zyrtec in the morning. Over the last two weeks, we’ve been tapering off the prednisolone while continuing Atopica. Since Atopica smells and tastes quite unpleasant, I’ve been giving Fado and my other cat Cumbia some catnip afterward to help them relax, along with Cobalequin, which they both love.
Additionally, I’ve added a daily skincare routine for Fado’s eyes to manage her epiphora, cleaning both eyes morning and night with gauze and eye wash solution. The allergy situation has improved a lot, though the epiphora persists.
Recently, I’ve noticed a slight increase in her glucose levels. Last night and this morning, they measured at 140 mg/dL. A week after starting the new treatment (on September 21), her glucose was 104 mg/dL, and before that (on September 6), it was 121 mg/dL.
My question is whether there could be a connection between her current medications—Atopica, prednisolone, Zyrtec, Cobalequin—and this slight rise in her glucose levels. Could the catnip also be a factor?
I really appreciate you all taking the time to read this and would be grateful for any insights!
