Assist Feeding tonight...

So Cotton's not been eating well since Friday. We think he's not feeling well, plus the Caninsulin doesn't seem to be working for him so after he ate almost nothing yesterday and this morning, I assist fed him his dinner tonight. I was just really worried about him going so long without eating. We have another vet appointment tomorrow hopefully to get a different insulin.

I guess I'm just wondering - Did I jump the gun on this one? I feel better knowing he has a decent meal in him, but I can't help but wonder if it would have sorted itself out by tomorrow if I hadn't intervened...

Am I crazy?

I think getting some food in your cat was a good idea. I would definitely ask the vet tomorrow about an appetite stimulant, such as cyproheptadine. It works really well for most cats.

Switching to either lantus or levemir, which are gentler and longer-acting insulins, would be great. I think Lantus is more well known, but Levemir seems to be rather more durable and a single pen can be used for months. Lantus is supposed to be replaced every month, although I believe there are quite a few who have used it longer. There is a lantus/levemir support group and they can answer any questions you may have. There are also "sticky" posts at the top which talk about how to handle and use these insulins. Similarly, there is also a PZI support group in the event that your vet recommends the new PZI insulin (which I'm not familiar with).
