Amethyst jumped off the counter last night and severely sprained her left leg She is in alot of pain. the vet said nothing broken thank God But she has to stay off it for 5 days Will this affect her BG#?

Hi Thanks no he did not but I have Tramadol let over from her eye surgery that I am trying to get in her and you are right she is being very stubbornSo sorry to hear this, Pamela.
I've heard pain can affect BG. I don't have any direct experience with it though. Did the vet give any pain meds for Amethyst and if not, can you ring them up and get some?
How exactly did the vet suggest she stay off it for 5 days? Just curious on that because what cat would listen?![]()
Oh my goodness Pamela. I'm sorry to hear that happened to sweet Amethyst. I'm glad she didn't break anything. If she's uncomfortable it could reflect in her BG numbers being a little high.... or not. Either way its only temporary. Chin scritches from me and I hope she's feeling better soon. These are for you

Thank you WendyPain can definitely impact BG numbers. My civie sprained his leg (crashing into the stove in hot pursuit of a toy mouse), and he was on buprenorphine. Vet didn't say anything about keeping him off his feet - like I could.

Poor girl!!!
My kitten sprained her knee really bad doing kitten stuff. We did a combo of IR laser at the vets and cold laser that a mobile vet did. I was really worried she wouldn’t recuperate from it because she is an active kitten. However, within about a month, she was back to her wild and crazy kitten self. You might ask your vet about whether he has lasers to do laser treatments.
BTW, I responded to your PM about updating the SS for 2018 but I haven’t heard back from you. I’ll be glad to do it for you when you get a chance to respond to my PM.k
Many vines for your girl!

Good Morning She had a better sleep last night. I am keeping her on my bed and watching her 24/7 I am picking her up and putting her down so she is not walking on itHow's she doing this morning? Poor kitty.

Thank you she is with me on my bed and I am watching her 24/7Hope she feels better soon! Do you have a crate or room to confine her for a few hours?

Thank youLots more vines headed Amethyst's way this evening. The ice packs should help her heal. When people get that kind of injury the treatment is RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate). Probably not practical for a cat! Feel better, dear girl!
I am applying ice for 5 minutes 3x a day
Thank youPoor, poor Amethyst! I have no idea how you'd keep a cat off it's feet. The only thing that I could think of would be to keep Amethyst in her cat carrier, and then take her out for poo and cuddle and ice breaks. Or maybe keep her in a room with nothing to jump up on for a while? Boy, not easy to do! But is she limping? If it's sore, is she trying to keep her weight off of it?
