Hi kids:
I know that’s coffee, I’m feelin’ like it’s time to switch to beer but it’s only 3:30 here on the east coast
We are enjoying a day at home today. Much computer work to be done, so it’s good we can keep an eye on Asher today.
A few of you have asked, so here’s the dental rundown from yesterday:
Morning was hell, everyone wanted food, naturally they both got up early to let us know their displeasure. Drive to vet in rush hour, 45 mins, howler poose all the way, mommy was fit to be tied. I asked the vet if they had a calming collar for me. They thought I was nuts. I guess we are the only ones that get that joke.
He lost 3 teeth: two molars, one of which was loose and looked bad, and another small side tooth.
We did the pre surgery blood panel since his is 8 years old, all was well and he came thru the procedure nicely. What was different this time (we just had a dental last April) was they gave Bupe for pain. Last time we got Tramadol in a big syringe to squirt in his mouth. It made him foam at the mouth terribly and he got scared and ran ALL over the house. A giant mess and the poor thing was freaked out.
This time he got (I think this spelling is correct) Buprenorphine SR. He was pretty stoned last night but happily so. We had to keep him from jumping and doing the stairs, although he really wanted to. He was a busy drunk, going from person to person asking for love and purring loudly. Today he’s less uncoordinated but still joyfully head butting us and rubbing us and purring. He’s always been a lovey cat but this stuff makes him doubly so. It’s funny to watch. He seems to feel great. I am curious how he will be after the 72 hours of this med is up. I’d probably be hung over if something was that fun
So far so good. He’s eating. He has peed a few times (they did give him fluids at the vet too). No poop yet but that’s normal since he didn’t eat for almost 24 hours. We gave no insulin last night because his bg was dropping. Last test was 65 after eating. This morning as I suspected, we woke to an ikky 300. We shot 3 units to be safe. Mid day he was 140-ish so I think we will be raising the dose, but wanted to be safe. (edit: +10 today was 85 so the jury is out) And couldn’t take another drama filled day :-/
So that’s the story on the "all kitty-all the time” channel here at the dutch ghetto.
Hope you guys all come home from work to a great pmps and a purring kitty/kitties. Peace, love and chicken treats!
