Asher 11/26 long time no see, low numbers!

Hi everyone,
I can’t tell you the last time we checked in, probably before I was on the road for forever, then holiday stuff hit. ohmygod_smile
Today I finally got the spreadsheet updated and I wanted to ask you nice folks some advice.

We got our dose up to 5 units, but just reduced tonight to 4.75 and will be monitoring closely. As you will see on the spreadsheet we are getting some really nice numbers now and tried to keep the pressure on. We have gotten some numbers in the 40s, and maybe then we should have seen if he would dip below 40 for a reduction, but circumstances lately with our crazy life have made us take the HC feeding option some days and nights when he went low, due to work or family obligations. I hope we didn’t screw things up doing that. We also have shot a couple chicken sh*t doses due to not being able to monitor as closely as usual or just outright fear of keeping Asher safe. nailbite_smile

So after he has been going so low lately, we decided tonight to shoot 4.75. We are just wondering what you guys think. I made a jpeg of our recent days on the spreadsheet here. :?:

Also looks like I should probably start a new spreadsheet? Dunno if I remember how, will have to consult the stickies again. It’s been almost two years since we started this one!

The 5.0u looks like it was a good dose. If the 4.75u doesn't look as pretty, I wouldn't delay going back to the last good dose.

As far as a new SS, I'd suggest adding a page to the current one. There's a "+" sign at the bottom left of your SS. If you click on it, it adds a page. You can then re-format the new page. This way, all of your data is in one place. You can then label the tabs on the bottom. (Look at Gabby's SS for an example.)
 
So Sienne, you don’t think Asher was going too low on the 5 units? (because we had to feed him, etc?) I was fine with it as long as we were home to test, but if we’d be gone all day, or if i HAD to sleep more one night, I’d worry.

It's hard to really tell if Asher was going too low. One consideration is how hard you have to work to bring numbers up. If you're working hard to keep the numbers from dropping, then I would certainly reduce the dose. In part, this is a matter of knowing your cat. With some cats, you need to see the drop below 40. For other longer term diabetic kitties, this may not be the case. You know your cat and you're there so you're the best gauge.
 
Really I don’t think we ever worked “hard" to bring any of those numbers up. We give him a fork full of high carb gravy food and he comes up nicely. I just worry that when we are not home, he could go low, and since he is a hoover kitty we can’t leave food out since it would be eaten right away, not during mid day when he would need it. Maybe feeding a bit higher mid carb food when we can’t be here would do the trick too.
 
I do have a timed feeder that needs new batteries :?
We did use it about a year and a half ago, but it scared the cats a bit when it turned :-D I think they could get used to the noise if there was something yummy in it.
Only used it a few times, then really didn’t need it again. We should try it again. We have two cats, but Asher is the hoover and alpha, so I know he would get to it before Alby :-D
Doubt he has houdini skills, but again, I never know with the gray man :lol: :lol: :lol:

One thing I want to add to Sienne's comments is that even if you shoot a BCS last night, you should monitor at least until +2 to see which way he is headed. The 72 at +1 could have been a food spike and then he could have come back down.

When you shoot a BCS, you have to remember the depot is still in play and it's unlikely you will see higher numbers that cycle unless he just starts to bounce which he eventually did. He's looking better!
