I do not see any controversy. Vaccines should not be administered more often than recommended by the manufacturer.

The article only addresses vaccines in dogs.
There is the problem of cancer (fibrosarcoma) in cats. The 3-year vaccines are adjuvanted, meaning they are made with dead virus and contain irritants to stimulate the immune system. There are non-adjuvanted vaccines are made with live virus and they are all only 1 year vaccines. The non-adjuvanted vaccines do not contain the immune system irritants that some scientists think are associated with causing fibrosarcoma.
There are recommendations by Vet associations as to vaccination sites in cats. No vaccines should ever be administered between the shoulder blades. In Texas that recommendation was made in 1995. This year, a vet tried to vaccinate one of my cats between the shoulder blades. I know now to be vigilant because I did not know with a previous cat.
Another question, is do animals really lose their immunity so quickly? Should a 20 year old cat have had 20 rabies vaccinations??

There are basically four type of vaccines:
- Live
- Live Modified
- Killed
- DNA
- With a live vaccine, the animal is injected with the actual virus. There are very very few of those since the animal can actually get the disease. They are prohibited for rabies
- A live-modified vaccine is made with an attenuated version of the disease virus
- As by the name. a killed vaccine uses the actual virus that has been deactivated
- DNA vaccine is like Merial's Purevax recombinant rabies vaccine which is a one year without a adjuvant .
