Hi all!

My Hula is 15 Year’s old. He is currently on insulin, just recently came out of remission. Over the past couple of years I have noticed his back legs seem a little weaker. Just stumbling and losing balance. He regains it right away and it isn’t something that is constant. Because of his age I thought the source could be arthritis. I don’t want him on pain meds all the time, but I wondered if there was some sort of natural supplement that could help him out. I looked online and saw all these chews, which I would think are not good for BGs.

Thanks!

not sure if i can mention it on here so sorry to admins ahead of time if i am not suppose to.

natural remedy - CBD oil for pets (made from hemp/no thc and legal in all states), takes a couple weeks to build up in their system but, have read good things about it helping with arthritis, appetite and anxiety issues.. i use cbd oil myself worked wonders for my popping & cracking neck and shoulder body aches that i no longer get every day.

I know you said you don't want to be on regular pain meds but there are many supplements that will slow the progression of arthritis while diminishing some of the pain. My boys are 19 and 20 --I have had them on adequan for 5 years which is a injection and that may be something you would be willing to do as it is not daily. The loading dose is a shot every 4 days for a total of 8 shots then anywhere from 1x a week to 1x a month. Mine get it every Sunday and easily go up and down 4 flights of stairs and jump on the beds. My non diabetic is on dasaquan which has also helped him greatly. They are both on Canna pet and MSM as well-
Adequan is a SQ injection and does not burn-is dosed by weight and easy to give at home. Some give with a insulin syringe, I use a 1ml syringe. Good luck!

I was browsing amazon and saw some hemp oil for cats and dogs. I know it isn’t exactly the same, but it got decent reviews. I was wondering if it would work similarly. Maybe not as potent?

I will look into this as well as the other options. When I said no daily pain I was referring more to general pain medication such as Bupe that the vets give. My kitty doesn’t do so well on that. I would like to get going on something. I can’t help but feel if he is having pain from this, that could be affecting his numbers a bit and making them somewhat higher.

i would be weary about buying on A, there are misleading pet hemp oils on there, they claim in description to be full spectrum but, than when asked, they say there is no cbd in their product!! regular hemp oil is very very low in cbd, i think of it more like a supplement for there is not enough to help with pain/sleep/etc. A true full spectrum hemp oil will contain a much higher amount of cbd in it, the higher cbd in a true full spectrum hemp oils works best for joint/inflamation pain.. i would stick to a hemp oil that says on bottle that it contains cbd in it and states its MG since you need it for your kitty's arthritis.

this is the link i saved incase i can't use human cbd oil for my old man when he starts needing it (not 100% sure if human and pet 'pure' cbd oil are basically the same, kinda think so though). https://holistapet.com/product/holistapet-cbd-pet-tincture/

oh whether it is full spectrum or not is up to you but, it is best. (you can get cbd oil like i use for myself without it being full spectrum)

We use Cosequin for arthritis.... it is a joint supplement. Also, kitty massage and therapeutic heat... laser treatments are also available at some practices. Cosequin is a sprinkle capsule. I notice the arthritis flares when Orry has to begin thinking or missing jumps... or limping. Weak hind legs can indicate neuropathy if diabetes is unregulated... which may not be your case.

I've been thinking about getting Cosequin for one of my civies, a 16 yo who has been limping and favoring his left shoulder. We take him and Callie's twin brother to the vet tomorrow for senior blood tests and checkups. I will ask the vet what to do for him. Right now, we have 4 cats that are older, ranging from 10 to 16. Each cat gets a different food. Meal times get crazy at our house when you add 2 dogs and a diabetic cat.

How do you manage the heat treatments?

Ask about adequan.

Think a rice sock... only bigger. He cuddles with it. Just make sure it isn't too hot. We used to use a heating pad under his cozy but he began sitting too long and there would be concern about burning. So now we use a snuggle buddy and he doesn't lay on it. Never unattended.
