Tomorrow is six months since we started treatment. Last night LBs number was too low to shoot. Don't know why he was at 135 @ +11 (after the bg test was taken) -- I had to feed him @ +11 as he demanding food (eaten very little thru the day). After this his number DROPPED to 73 in an hour after food!!! We decided not to shoot. This morning his number was at 97 (AMPS). If you look at LBs SS you will see his colours under WORLD.

We were @ .05 units. I think we are meant to drop him to .25 but how does one measure that amount? Diet is the most important thing for LB. Small meals essential - regular thru the day (every few hours - even thru the night). (one small meal going to bed and one small meal during the night). Luckily he wakes us when he needs to eat. (or unluckily depending on your POV)

Obviously enormously proud of ourselves, Little Boy and the forum. Everyone has been so helpful - I've read way, way more than I've posted. :cool:

Hi Marilyn,

I can't help you with the dose advice but here is a picture of .25

Hope this helps. :smile:

thanks. I've missed this morning's dosing. Also last nights. Will see how we go. Nerve racking --- I;m mostly wondering how other's who got their kitties off the juice, how they managed this stage? Did they stop and start or do a trial off and see h ow it went.... ? I think this is what we are thinking of doing. It does seem too early but...........

Marilyn,

Usually I think they go down to even a drop before going off completly. The longer it takes there is more of a chance that it will last longer. Hope others will be around to answer this for you. As my kitty has not gone OTJ on lantus as of yet. Here are some more pictures of small amounts of insulin in case you have to measure them.

Fine dose gradations from Steve and Jock:
0.5U = exactly half a unit
0.4U = skinny 0.5 touching the line
0.3U = skinny 0.5 with daylight under the line
0.2U = fat zero with daylight over the line
0.1U = fat zero touching the line

LB is doing very well. You should be proud.

Jan has it right! Most of us have tapered off very gradually -- from .5 to .25 to .1. I think we may even have stuffed an extra step in there, .5 to .3 to .2 to .1. :shock:

The idea is to give LB's pancreas plenty of time to heal, and plenty of time to adjust to taking over the full job on its own.

Measuring is a challenge, but you can draw the syringe to what you're doing now, then take out a drop.

Marilyn:

LB is doing great. You need to stick with the 0.5u until LB's numbers drop below 50. That you saw a drop in numbers after feeding suggests that LB's pancreas is working. Like Jan described, you want to keep LB on insulin as long as possible in order to support his pancreas for as long as possible.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I've missed last nights dose and this morning's dose. I presume that at PMPS tonight I will resume a dose of .3 approx? I don't know what it means that I've missed two doses but I think it is ok if I resume at a lower dose.

We have the allergy problem going on simultaneously - I didn't think he had any beef recently but he's had a busy day bitting himself. @-) He always has a dark grey chin where his saliva has dribbled from constant licking. If he's not itchy his chin is dry. This suggests an airborn allergy unless it's a chemical in the tinned fish. (only giving him a little per day) ohmygod_smile

I really appreciate the input I get. I haven't been such a good follower of the program but I have relied on the people on this site for knowledge and reassurance. ~O)

Marilyn,

If it was my cat I would stick with the 0.5 till he went below 50 and earned a dosecrease. This will give his pancreas plenty of time to heal. You want to do it slow and the right way so OTJ has more of a chance to stick. I would pose the question today even if you have already given the am dose, and ask what others think.

Your right this site is awesome! It is amazing how much I have learned since Sara was DX. Good luck with LB and I wish you OTJ success. Hope his allergies clear up also.

What a smart boy! He is beutiful Marilyn! Love the birds in the background too. Wish it was that temp over her right now.

Good luck with the dosecrease. At a later time I added the different dose measurements for you on one of my posts from last night.

Have a good day.

Very cute video, I'm glad he is doing so well. I'm a little confused, you write the you have been shooting ".05u " and wondering if you should reduce to ".25u" did you mean " .5u "? It's on your ss that way too.

oops, numbers were never strong point! I'm trying shoot a .03units. Last night was the first night since dx that he didn't ask for food during the night! I think this is a good sign. Sorry for confusion. :roll:
