Are we reaching remission?

I have posted over in the lantus forum to stay connected on our dosage today.

But would love your advice on how to make sure Bijan is back ok. Bijan was diagnosed in late oct of 2022. We have had trouble with his vet and thankfully I feel like this forum has been our greatest blessing in her inability to help me manage this (link to past meltdown).

Fast forward today, I just gave bijan .1 this am and looks like that was even too much. He's munching on some fancy feast gravy lover right now and a bit of grain-free dry food from Whole foods. Will be diligent about night testing and keeping him in green and blues.

He is happy, talking, chasing bugs on the balcony, playing with his toys all morning, and from what I can see back to normal maybe even better bc he seems leaner and lighter. Tiki has helped with his coat a lot.

But we also just got a follow-up call from his vet, she has been pretty MIA the last few months until i called last week to see if she had seen his newest numbers. She was borderline hysterical saying his numbers were way too low, "in a dangerous range" and that she didn't trust the meter I was using (she had him on the freestyle 2 when diagnosed).. it has been clear to me that she is unfamiliar with managing feline diabetes but now I don't know if she even understands it in general since she wasn't sure that the blood tests were more reliable than the meter (even I know this because my dad is a type 2 diabetic).

She told me to stop dosing and get 1 week of numbers.

What is the goal range to stay in blue or green? How do i know if he is actually in remission or if i am managing it with diet? Does this matter? I'm conflicted feeling so much relief and her call just shot my own heart rate up.

You want the greens with maybe a few in the low 100s. Some cats will show a little spike in BG due to food before the the feedback releases the body's natural insulin. You can stop insulin and see with happens since last dose was only 0.1 units.

I would follow the advice you get from the Lantus forum as they’re more experienced. You could also go down to 1 drop but now sure it’s needed since he’s going under 50 on .1

A cat's normal (non-diabetic) blood glucose is roughly 72-150, depending on the lab, when the cat last ate, what he ate, etc. I don't understand why you would be giving any insulin when the cat is testing at sub-normal numbers.
