Appropriate daily sodium intake for cats?

Hello all,

First off, I want to thank each and every one of you...my sweet boy Leo was diagnosed May 11th, and without the knowledge and experience on this board, the last two weeks would have been even harder than they were. I'll get a pic of Leo as my avatar when I get home from work so you can see why my login is PrettyBlueEyes! Anyway, Leo is doing ok on 1.25 u of Prozinc every twelve hours (numbers between 60 at nadir and almost never over 225 pre-shot) and eating a high-protein canned food exclusively. For being such a good, calm boy when his mom pokes and prods him, he gets a treat of a chunk of canned chicken (which he LOVES. He purrs at test time!) but I'm concerned about the amount of sodium he may be getting from it. Since this occurred to me a few days ago I have been rinsing it before letting him have it, but he likes it less. Can anyone shed some light on whether or not the amount of sodium in the chicken could be detrimental to Leo? I want him to have his treat, but I don't want to cause him any more health issues.

Thank you all so much!

Thank you both for the replies. It looks like the chicken has too much sodium-we'll be changing that right away.

I'll probably take the suggestion about boiling first-since I pretty much live on chicken, I can just make him his own personal batch!

Again, thanks so much!
