Wondering dosage for a 11-12 pound cat with CRF/17 years old.....for both cyproheptadine and mitzapine...
has anyone had strange side effects?

I used mirtazapine for Squeaker, about 12 pounds and he never had a problem with it. Dosage is 1/8 of a 15 mg tablet daily or 1/4 every 3 days.

I used cypro for China....just a crumb would have her looking to take down any stray water buffalo's that wandered through....About 1/8th of a 4mg tablet

It's something you should start small with...if 1/8th doesn't work, then go to 1/4

It can also be given twice a day if needed, where mirtazapine should only be given every 3 days

Jayla, I have used both. I prefer Cypro because Mirtz can make kitty very hyper. We call it Meowzapine for a reason.

The Cypro was prescribed for Minka, who weighed around 8 lbs at the time. I was told to give 1/2 of a 4 mg tablet twice a day. I usually start with 1/4 tablet for Harvey, who is a hair under 9 lbs. Most days that's enough, but sometimes he needs 1/2.

The Mirtz was prescribed for Sasha, who weighed about 7.5 lbs at the time. They said to give 1/4 of a 15mg tablet every three days.
