Re: brewers yeast

No one's ever mentioned it that I recall.

The usual recommendations include:
  • chicken dust (crumbling freeze dried chicken)
  • tuna water
  • chicken broth
  • diced chicken or turkey
  • bonito/tuna flakes (freeze dried) crumbled over food
  • parmesean cheese
  • FortiFlora
  • baby food
  • yogurt
  • warming food to make it smellier
  • rotisserie chicken

Gabby also loves the allergy formula of pill pockets. They are duck and pea and contain no corn syrup so are fine for a diabetic cat. They are also really stinky!

You might want to change the subject line to something like "appetite stimulants" so more people will drop by.

Re: brewers yeast

Hi, Julie!

I've heard elewhere that a sprinkle of brewer's yeast can work. I do know it is in an ingredient in Willie's supplement that I add to his food, and it hasn't seemed to affect his numbers (though, it is a very small amount as the total serving for the supplement is 1 tsp per 1 cup of food).

FYI, the reason folks suggest fortiflora is that it includes the flavoring that pet food companies use on dry kibble (fortiflora is actually a purina product). I know Willie would eat anything with it on there... it is like kitty crack!!

Re: brewers yeast

ok great. can you get it at like petsmart? the fortiflora? i also have freezedried chicken and shrimpies and she likes those. thanks for the list of other suggestions. helping me to breathe again. thank you so much.

Maverick is an extremely picky eater. When I need him to eat - I sprinkle chicken dust liberally on top of the food. I pat it in to the food and sprinkle a bit more on. Then reapply if he doesn't finish. Or when I bring him back to his food bowl at another time. I put the freeze dried chicken in the magic bullet so it makes it into a finer dust then crumbling with my hands.

I've not looked at Petsmart for FortiFlora. I've ordered it online either at Amazon or PetFood Direct. Oh -- make sure you order the feline version.
