Appearance of Bald Patch on Side of Cat

Hi All,

Edgar was only diagnosed two weeks ago and his insulin is currently being adjusted. We just noticed this morning that his fur has fallen out, leaving a bald patch about an inch in diameter. I'd say this has happened in the past 24 hours. Has anyone any experience with this? I hate to go back to the vet today, he spent all day there Thursday having a blood curve but this is rather alarming. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.
 
The bald patch should not be from diabetes, I've never heard of that happening. Unless anyone knows something about allergies that I don't, hopefully others can answer that.

Is the bald patch scaley at all? Ringworm can cause fur to fall out. I just went through this with some foster kittens, one lost fur on his tail, the other on her chin. Ringworm is a fungus, not actual worms or anything like that.
 
Chip is experiencing something similar right now. He's losing huge sheaths of fur with the upper layer of skin still attached. The vet thinks it's a skin infection and his treating him with an antibiotic (bloodwork shows an elevated white count and a few other irregularities as well), though we are also talking about possibility of an endocrine disorder, such as Cushing's.

I'm in the process of scheduling further evaluation with an IM specialist, though I'm wondering about whether the insulin (Lantus) could be the culprit as the major sloughing is occurring in the general vicinity (emphasis on general) of where I inject.

I'll be watching this thread and will post if I find out anything with Chip. I think I've seen this question posed before, although I haven't been able to locate those threads on either this or the old board when searching.
 
Any idea if he may have pulled out the fur?

I know when Odie gets really stressed, he will bite and pull out clumps of fur. I've never seen him pull out quite as much as you're mentioning, but it might be an explanation.
 
One of my cats is what I call a stress groomer. He licks himself bald on his front legs when he's anxious or upset about a new family member.

My diabetic boy Tugger though, he was loosing tons of fur when he was first diagnosed. Everywhere he'd lay, when he got up would have loads of fur in a very Tugger-like shape. He wasn't grooming it out, he'd sleep or just lay somewhere and there it would be when he stood up to walk away. It seemed to go away once we got the Lantus into his system. I just assumed it was because he'd been pretty sick before we figured out what it was, he lost weight quickly and his fur wasn't healthy so I figured it was all shedding off to make room for the healthy fur that has replaced it.

His was all over, not in patches so I don't know if it relates at all but I figured I'd throw it out there. Tug has always been a shedder but this was nothing like his usual stuff that we brush out, it was odd so I noticed it
