Yeah it's actually the nutrient mix, mixed with the FAT that makes the rise - when I called them on the phone last week, that's how it was explained to me. I split mine, between my 2 cats - so a meal for 1, was a meal for 2 - and I only did it at lunch. The BG rise wasn't as steep, but it still DID go up. It's why I chose not to reorder, but for awhile there, it did my babies good I think. I haven't crossed them off my list, but it's not something I'd get a lot of, all the time.
If you have 2 or more cats, split/cut it for lunch with added water - if you have 1 cat, cut it - mix 1/4 with regular canned. It DOES fill them up, and it is hella tasty to them. Just watch their digestion - I don't know why but Fena got looser stool from it with some solids, and Mao had to make multiple trips to the box, not all successful - so start SMALL. Or cut, like I suggested. I tried both the chicken and the fish - both were a hit, taste wise.
Texture, you might have to play with, as I did with Fena - Mao liked it fine as is, even split.
TIPS - cold days, this is a GOD SEND. If it's cold, it goes down better. Hotter, it doesn't. The more protein, the more dense the food that way and the colder it is - the better. The hotter, NO. So if you're in an area where it get cold, look into this, at least for winter - it's good stuff, but you do have to watch BG closer.
Add HOT WATER to the food, not luke warm or cold - HOT, like from a kettle. Wait till it steams, not boils.
Depending on your kitties mouth you might need to help them - bust up chunks, cut pieces, etc. so do that, definitely!
