I tested kitty for the very first time tonight and was able to collect enough blood to get a reading! But - it took quite a few pokes. Has anyone had success with a lancet device, and if so - which one?
I use a lancet device - the only time my cat has ever cried out during testing was the two times I tried to freehand poke, so I’ve stuck to the device since then. I use the one that came with the AlphaTrak meter I used to use, but I think it’s the same as the Freestyle human one because it says Freestyle on the side lol
The freestyle device works with the ReliOn lancets! That one has a clear tip so it may make it easier to see where you’re poking maybe?
What about one that works with the Relion Prime? I saw this one on Amazon and am wondering if it would be a good one.
I actually use this device, and sometimes the Abbott one that came with my Alphatrak meter. Most lancets will fit in most lancet devices.
The issue I have had with both devices is that they aren't completely consistent about where within the "circle" opening of the tip the needle actually comes out. With the clear tip you at least have some idea where you will poke, though. I think there is slightly inconsistent poke depth even when at the same setting, but it's probably more consistent than if I were doing it freehand. I've tried free-handing the lancet and I guess I just don't have a steady hand. The lancing devices aren't perfect, but I feel more in control using one, and I think the super quick automatic poke is less bothersome for Figaro at least.
If you try the Caretouch, just be careful when putting the cap on that your depth setting doesn't move as it's very easy to twist the depth gauge when capping/uncapping the device. I use depth 3 with 28g lancets. I find the spring release is quieter/softer than the Abbott so overall prefer it.
Great question! Here are the instructions on setting up a spreadsheet: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/Thank you! And how do I find this spreadsheet that’s talked about so much?

Yes you should be really proud!Thank you! I had put it off for much too long, but was ecstatic to get that reading!![]()
