Hi all, my 17 year old Knox is getting his dental and teeth extracted tomorrow. I’m kicking myself, I should have had this done sooner but financially, it was rough. Anyways, to say the least I’m nervous and took off today to spend time with him.
It appears he is in a lot of pain and is having trouble eating. For the last two days, I’ve been able to give him Gerber turkey and broth baby food. There is no sugar in it it’s just turkey and water so he is not having any blood spikes. The problem is he needs taurine and a multitude of other vitamins and minerals because he cannot eat baby food alone. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good food supplement I could sprinkle on his baby food? I’m imagining it might get harder to feed him once he gets home from this dental. I’ve also tried to give him water down blended cat food, it’s a no go. I managed to get him to eat one pouch of Tiki cat mousse. Other than that he shows no interest. No tuna juice, no Parmesan cheese, nothing is sparking his appetite. Not heating up the food... nothing. He only wants baby food right now. If worse comes to worse I just want to be able to order something to supplement his diet of baby food while he is healing. A lot of the supplements I’m seeing have maltodextrin in them and I don’t want to get any false readings or spikes in his blood. If anyone knows please let me know. I’m anxious thinking of dropping him off And hopeful that I’ll be picking my baby up in tact tomorrow. I’m just trying to get all my questions and now because I have no idea what to expect with the healing process. Thank you so much.

The nutrients aren’t really a concern unless this goes on for more than a few weeks. A temporary lack of balanced food won’t cause any harm. Hopefully he gets his appetite back after his dental!
@FurBabiesMama mentioned bone broth, and I’ve also seen recipes floating around for a liver shake that can be really good for enticing kitties who don’t want to eat. A/D food from the vet is another option, as that is high in calories and can easily be blended if you end up needing to assist feed.

@FurBabiesMama @SpotsMom thank you thank you thank you! These are great suggestions and I’m really hoping that he will eat better once he is home. I just have no idea what to expect so I’m trying to cover all my bases while I still have some presence of mind. I’m freakin terrified to be honest! Crying like a baby all day. Thank you ladies!!!!

You could also try and blend to almost liquid the cat food but with chicken broth instead of with water , prepare the broth with no salt or anything added just the chicken and if you include the skin it gets a bit greasy but they love it and if he's not overweight it won't really matter or just the plain chicken broth (only for a few days it should be ok)
