I called Abbott about the Freestyle and they are over-nighting a Relion Ultima Meter kit with 100 test strips but I won't get till Tuesday since they missed today's mail. Does anyone know anything about that meter? Do you use it? Any feedback? My Contour is out of strips so unless I go out and buy strips for that one that I don't like, I have to get another if this one is no good. Does anyone know?

Thanks.

Melanie

I think that's the one I used to use - from Walmart. The strips are reasonably priced, so I was happy with it. I think it is comparable to any of the other human meters, as far as I know. If I were to buy another one I would spend the extra to get the Micro, but still this one worked fine for me.

Hey, did you used to post on the PZI forum, you moved from SF some time ago? How exciting to see you around (if I'm not confused!!!). How is Racci doing?

Relion Ultima - some strips RECALLED and no longer made....it takes a LOT of blood and strips don't 'suck' well.

On the other hand, the Relion CONTOUR or MINI are both wonderful meters and have about the cheapest strips around....hope it's one of those instead...

I started out with the ultima. as said, takes a large amount of blood and sips very slowly. use it for now but get the relion confirm or micro. small amount of blood and sips very quickly. only cost about $9-12. (can't remember) and the strips are some of the cheapest around approx. $20 for 50 strips

Thank you all for the input. I will see if I can get ahold of the person at Abbott and have him send one of those if not too late. He said Ultima but if strips were recalled, I don't need more trouble!

Hi Joanna! It's great to hear from you. Racci is still hanging in there. I thought she was doing pretty well and finally getting regulated but now hear that there is a problem with the new strips from freestyle so am not sure till I get another meter and some new history to compare. She's getting older and I think has arthritis in her leg that she injured as a youngster, and we just lost her mom, Calli, so she had to get over that hurdle. I had to add Miralax for constipation and her neuropathy is still there but nothing major, thank goodness. Racci is doing much better on Lantus than PZI and the Flovent has made her asthma almost non-existent as long as she gets it twice a day.

How are you doing? So sorry Bix passed!

Melanie & Racci

Oh I'm so sorry you lost Calli, how sad. I lost Bix just over a year ago and a civie Pippa last August, so my remaining civie and I are still recovering from a difficult year.

I hope you find Racci's #s are good with the new meter. That's great she is doing better on Lantus - I don't recall the details but I remember you were struggling to get her in better numbers on PZI.

Hugs & scritches to Racci!

I use the ReliOn Ultima, and haven't had any problems with it. FYI it requires a .6 blood sample, and the test strips are about $17 for 50 or $36 for 100. I've never had any problem with the strips not sucking well.

Good luck to you and the kitty!

I used the Ultima for years and still have one as my backup meter. I did switch to the Relion Confirm a few months ago since it uses less blood. I have been very satisfied with both Relion meters. It is just a matter of personal preference.

Curt uses the Relion micro.... it was the cheapest meter Walmart had and also the strips are the cheapest. I got 20 for 8 dollars. It also requires a very tiny amount of blood.

Do you think there's any accuracy difference in the size of the blood sample? I wonder why the Ultima requires .6, and the Micro requires half that. They're both made by ReliOn; why does one require twice as much blood as the other?

Whoa, .6 microlitres is a lot of blood? That's how much my Contour uses and I never thought it was much at all. Maybe it's changed?
