Cancer treatment that includes steroids has unfortunately brought Scruffy into the 200's again. (He was a steroid-induced diabetic in the first place, and his fourth anniversary of being diet controlled would have been on April 8 of this year.) While I hate to add insulin to the already horrendous list of stuff I'm doing to him, I think that it's too risky for his failing kidneys to not do something.

I'm afraid that we won't be needing more than one flexpen. :(

I am sorry Lynda that you have to put him back on insulin....just one more thing I know. :(

Marci (Buddy) sent me two expired carts (expired 6/11 - not punctured). I have been using one and it seems to be okay in bringing Tigger's numbers down pretty well - not unlike the end of the last vial that I still have not used up. Anyway, I could send you the other one that Marci sent me. I have your address already so just let me know.

Continuing to send prayers for the Puffer. (((hugs Lynda)))

ETA to Marci and others....I was going to post about it here to let others know after I had used it for a while to be sure and after I got my SS updated.

Ah, Pamela! (What a good friend you are!) Yeah, it makes me even sadder to have to do this. Plus, I have to order another bottle of his glaucoma medication, too.....

I wonder if there's going to be another break in the weather that might make it safer to mail it? Dale Ann sent me insulin once years ago that got frozen in the mailbox and I had to throw it away. Or maybe some way to insulate it? I will happily send you the postage/shipping for it.

Thank you, and for the well-wishes, too. We need them.

We have tomorrow to work on it. Bill will help me figure something out and get it mailed to you on Monday - it'll be alright. Bill wanted to know if you are home during the day. You are right? So it doesn't sit in your mailbox.

(thank you to Marci)

((((Lynda))))

Let us know if you need dosing help. I had to go TID for Gandalf while he was on prednisolone and it worked very well but my crazy work schedule didn't help and he still went in the 400s.

You can look at his spreadsheet, I updated it all. The single numbers in the cells are +hour counts while doing TID.

I caution to not start at more than .5U though, especially if he's only running in the 200s, maybe a quarter unit would even be better.

And I have a Levemir pen that's only partially used, still has 250U. I wouldn't give it up for just anyone because it was Gandalf's, but for Scruffy I would. We're supposed to have 50s here Monday and Tuesday. I could priority mail it Monday and by the time it got there, the 50s would probably be there too! But if there's some way to protect it from the cold at night on some tarmac somewhere, I don't know how. I get something mail order that should stay above 65° and they put a sticker on the box and it's sent priority mail, so I don't know if the post office actually pays attention to that or not. I always have to sign for it though because of that. Does anyone know postal rules? We could tell them it just has to stay above freezing because the container might burst if it freezes! They always ask if it's liquid.

Vicky and Pamela -

You guys are so wonderful. I am so appreciative of your offering to help. I just talked to Dian and Melissa- who are both within driving distance, and they each have a partial cartridge that they will give me. It will remove the danger of freezing and the pain in the neck aspects of mailing.....

Thanks so much. Your support and caring makes me cry. (Actually, these days, everything makes me cry.) I am so lucky to know people like you.

I'm glad you can get one from close by. You don't need the possibility of frozen insulin to complicate matters. Please keep us updated, unless you'd rather we just read Scruffy's blog.

One small thing I want to share is take pictures for yourself! You will treasure them later on even if he doesn't look that great. When I look at Gandalf's last pictures it helps me realize I did everything I could for him and that he did not suffer.

I'm sorry to probably make you cry again. I know what that's like too. (((((((Lynda)))))))
