Anyone has experience with liver problem?

One of my civvies has elevated ALT. It was slightly elevated 4 months ago and given zentonil (liver supplement) for a month and we were told to do the blood test after that. We were too busy that we missed it. Fast forward to today - did blood test and ALT elevated twice of last value. Vet gave 2 options - to do ultrasound and check for any bumps or anomalies in liver or other organs or to continue the supplement for another month and recheck. Since she felt the level is not very high, we agreed to try the supplements again and give the liver a chance to heal.
Anyone has similar experience to share? Any medicine we can give our cat? We are kinda stressed now cos we are still coping with our diabetic cat and has another just diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. This will be another medical issue within this short period. We don't want to do anything wrong and lose anyone of them. Any advice is appreciated.

I checked and they all contain s-adenosylmethionine and silibin. But different amount. So I'm on the right track.
Do your cats' ALT values show improvement? How long have they been on these supplements? Do your cats show any symptoms? Cos my cat is eating well and not showing any signs that she's not well.
 
It helped but the liver problem got worse. He urine was brown due to bilirubin. I said good when all he did was sit in one place all the time. That was no life for a cat
 
What was the result of the ultrasound? Did the liver start deteriorating cos of old age or was it more than that?
 
I've had two different cats with liver issues. One was Mimi when blood work was run before her spay (gosh, over 10 years ago). She was given a prescription wet food for liver before they would do her spay. She was on the diet for 2 weeks and retested, and cleared. Never had any other problems since.
We are currently going through liver failure with our oldest Runswith. We caught it late, and they did prescribe Denamarin. They also recommended an ultrasound with biopsy to determine cancer or other really bad issue that is not treatable easily. Since she's 20 we are not going to put her through treatment since it would impact her quality of life too detrimentally without any reassurance of fixing or offering her more time. So we aren't even going to get the ultrasound, as it doesn't matter which fatal illness it actually is, what matters is we keep her comfortable. She's not eating, so we tried the prescription diet for the liver, but opted to go to a different non liver specific food just to get additional nutrients in her. She's also on prednisolone, an appetite stimulant, and sub-q fluids.
So it seems I've had both ends of the extreme of liver issues. Since my other kitty's liver resolved with diet alone, has your vet suggested going to the liver food?

Oh yes, we chatted on your thread few days back. My vet did not mention about liver diet. What brand is that? Do u have a picture? I can try to get some.
My Girl is 10 years old. I definitely want her to be with me many years on.

I don't remember the letters. (Mostly because it is prescription and got it directly through my vet, so I didn't have to think about it they just handed me the right stuff.)
I know it was a Hills prescription can though.

I googled and yes they do Hv for hepatic. Odd that the vet didn't recommend it.
 
Hi, Babu had a similar problem, he did had an ultrasound and Xrays, to discard tumors or other things, what probably started his problem was the fast loose of weight he has been getting sylimarin since he had the problem and his numbers are back to normal, (you can take a look at his labs in his SS) that's one good thing about the liver it can regenerate and recover with the proper care

He never showed any symptoms we discovered the problem in his labs

Thanks for sharing. Would you happen to remember what was his ALT value when you realised he has liver issue? So babu had surgery to remove the tumour? Did he recover fast?
 
Joey's liver values Normal
AST (SGOT) 134 10 to 100 U/L

ALT (SGPT) 247 10 to 100 U/L
Alk Phosphatase 116 6 to 102 U/L

I cold tell problem since urine was brown

No he did not had a tumor, the ultrasound was to be sure, fortunately it appears that his liver was damaged because of his sudden and big loss of weight, but no tumors or stones,

he's been taking the sylimarin to help with his recovery, it took a few months but his numbers are OK now

His ALT was 558 U/l (the range was 22-84 )in July 2016 and he was 63 this past may you can check his values in the LAB tab of the SS

My girl's ALT is 352 u/l, according to the lab normal range is 12-130. Is the attached picture what u give to your cat?

Different brand but yes the one I give him is Legalon (which is actually just sylimarin) I give him aprox 17 grams (1/4 of a 70 gram pill)
