Hi. Willow was given Cerenia to help with nausea from antibiotics after having an anal sac rupture a while back. I found that during the time she was taking it, she was not having breathing episodes like normal (basically asthma attacks). Also, she was a fairly frequent vomiter in the past, possibly related to her 'slow gastric emptying'. It is better since she is on a quality wet food diet, but it still happens occasionally. Anyway, fast forward to now... I was fortunate to get a box of 4 24mg Cerenia tablets, and I have been giving her 1/4 of a tablet every other day or every second day. It seems to be just enough to help her. I have not had the slightest issue giving them to her - and this is a cat who H-A-T-E-S to be given pills. It is such a small sliver of a tablet and has a texture that pretty much falls apart easily/quickly. I am able to just stick it in her mouth with my finger then let her eat a few treats right away, and she goes on as though nothing happened.
Well, not this morning. I proceeded to give her the pill as normal, but immediately after I did, she started foaming at the mouth. I mean a LOT, foamy drool just oozing out and hanging off her mouth. I grabbed a warm, wet cloth and picked her up and started wiping it. I also attempted to give her some water via syringe though most ended up on my baby's chin and neck. It was so pitiful and scary. It seemed to go on for several minutes. I cleaned and dried it up as much as possible, and she finally stopped and settled down. She had no interest in her usual treats which she is normally quite happy to gobble up right after the pill, and she also would not eat warm bone broth with shredded chicken which she normally loves (she seemed nauseated at that point - initially interested but licked her lips and did not eat). I feel so bad.
This was so unexpected and scary. Has anyone else had this happen? Why would it happen this time when it never has before?? She has been sleeping since. I hope she will be ready to eat something at lunch time. If not, I am going to be really worried. I do not know that I will want to risk giving her Cerenia again even though until now it has been great.
