Minnie got a clean bill of health at her vet checkup this week, but now I’m obsessing about any symptoms that may look like her pneumonia is coming back. I noticed some clear nasal discharge once this week and she coughed 2 nights in a row. I know it’s a bit off topic but wondering if anyone else has dealt with their diabetic kitties going through pneumonia as well.

I have not dealt with pneumonia, but Little Bit has feline asthma. We have to keep his coughing & breathing under control with Flovent. Not sure if that’s something she might need for her lungs.

He had open mouth breathing and coughing. He ended up in the oxygen tank at the ER vet, then he was diagnosed. I suspect his diabetes was caused from about 3 years of daily prednisolone. That’s why we switched to Flovent. It is much healthier for him.
Same thing happened with Minnie but the diagnosis was cardiomyopathy. She had pneumonia at the time and did the whole coughing gagging thing too, but when I think back, she’s always done that every once in a while and I always thought it was hair balls, but no hair balls ever came out

She’s more active today and hungrier. She was a bit on the sleepy side the last 2 days, but today she seems great. I upped her insulin this am, but her numbers are still all over the place. She doesn’t sound congested and I know the vet checked her chest, lungs, breathing, etc. maybe I’m just being paranoid after all. Respiratory rate continues to be good and we’re down to .4 mls on the furosemide

They also took X-rays of his lungs which showed inflammation of the airways. It is very similar to a hairball “cough,” but closer to the ground and the neck is stretched.
