I didn't have my regular Friskies Classics, so a friend brought me a can of her cat food til I get to the store.
It's Friskies 'Turkey and Gravy' and now I'm afraid his BG levels will go up, and he'll get sick!
Not on insulin, doing Essential Oils to produce hormones and insulin, plus low carb diet.
Please tell me he will be OK!
I have an appt later, and am worried about him. I gave him only 1/3 of the can.
Help! :(

One can of food shouldn't cause any trouble. It might make his numbers spike for a bit, but they should go back down when on his regular food.

Be VERY CAREFUL when using oils with cats, they don't typically work very well. Can't remember where now, but a while back I read that e oils and cats are a no-no.

Thanx! Nice to hear from you!
I got his regular Classic now, and he seems fine.
I am a slight agoraphobic, and can only leave my place when Absolutely Necessary. I cancel appts alot, and have a very difficult time just making it to the store!
I have not bought a BG meter yet, but I watch him closely, and his 5 Ps are still very much in tact.
I appreciated your feedback re: Essential oils, and have been talking with a Vet, who deals with holistic tx, on Facebook, and the oils I have promote hormone and insulin production. I only dilute 1 drop of each in a tsp. of coconut oil, then pet him with only 1 DROP of that mixture. So we will see...
He's been quite 'normal' lately, but I do need to get the tester.
No ketones in his urine - I've checked that often, soo, so far so good!
Thanx again! You're the only one who answered my post, and I even sent a couple PMs! (They could be at work)
Talk soon. :)

@Rusty14
I agree with Mogmom and Goofus. You only gave Rusty 1/3 of a can. If anything, there could be a temporary spike in BG but not to worry.

Perhaps you could order your meter online? Glad to hear you're being very conservative and working with a vet for the oils.

@Mogmom and Goofus ...it's really easy to create links.....Just copy the link you want and then type whatever you want here (like "info on e-oils" or whatever...I just put the link to American Diabetes Wholesale in the post above). "Highlight" the words you wrote (like if you were going to copy/paste them) and then click on the little icon that looks like a link in a chain. A new little box will pop up. "Paste" the link you copied earlier in the little box and you've got it!

Wow! Thanx everyone!
Re: Essential oils. I have a Vet, Dr. Roark, I discuss the oils with, often, on Facebook. Very, very small amount. 1 drop Geranium leaf oil, 1 drop Myrrh oil, diluted in one tspn. (approximately 80 drops) of the carrier oil, which I'm using Coconut. Then, only 1 drop of THAT mixture is petted on Rusty daily. Both promote hormone and insulin production.
Because of my illness, I rarely leave my house, so I KNEW I wouldn't do the insulin route, to begin with, anyway.
My Vet tested Rustys blood for something else, and Found the diabetes.
His 5 Ps are great, still, so I thought I'd try this first. Wish him luck, guys!! ;)

Great. I think there are alot of different types of oils out there, and just as many Vets!
I'm using Doterra Essential Oils, and my online AND personal Vet both say try it and see how HE responds. That's all I can do, and if he gets worse, I'll start insulin.
As said, his 5 Ps are great: still playing at 14 years old! (Mostly with June bugs in the yard!) YUCK!!! ;)

Thanx Chris, I'll try it.

I thank you too, Chris, for sharing how to get the meters and supplies online. And Tammy.
Much appreciated! :)
