Anybody using BCP?

Is anybody using BCP bovine PZI insulin? I called the place in Texas, but they won't tell me the price. I have to have my vet send a prescription. I'd like some ballpark numbers before I bother the vet.

My first diabetic cat got bovine PZI from Eli Lilly, and that stuff was great - just one shot a day. Then they stopped making it, but after a while a company in the UK began making it. Too many hoops to jump through for that, but now it's finally been approved in the US. I have a feeling, though..."If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

Are you no longer using Lantus or trying to switch? If I recall, the only PZI user's I've seen on here are in the U.K. Members in the U.S. can get Prozinc though.

My cat was on PZI Bovine U40 insulin compounded by BCP Pharmacy in Houston, Texas. The pharmacy also compounds U100. A vile of U40 was less than $55.00, the directions will say to discard 28 days after first puncture, however I always used until empty, sometimes as long as 90 days without loss of potency. Since this insulin is just one ammino acid away from what a cat normally produces it worked great, IMHO.

How many injections per day? My first diabetic cat only needed 1 injection per day of the original PZI bovine back in 1992-1995, before Eli Lilly discontinued their animal-source insulins.

Tibby is still on Lantus, but I'm having a terrible time with it. My eyesight and hand/eye coordination plus the equipment and tiny tiny doses are just not working out (yes I have the syringes with half-unit markings). Sometimes I can't even tell if there really is insulin in the syringe, or just air. Even going under a half unit can cause him to rebound. But his BG goes up if he doesn't get any insulin at all.
