I'd like to see what a non-diabetic cat's blood glucose curve looks like with the cat being fed twice a day.

Can someone point me to a curve?

Thanks in advance,
Kathy

I was hoping that someone could refer to a study of Diabetic Cats vs. Non-Diabetic Cats. I've been googling but I'm not using the correct keywords or something. I know there has to be a study out in the world somewhere. :bookworm:

Usually the point of doing a glucose curve is to see how the insulin is working in a cat, so I’m not sure there would really be a reason to do a curve on a cat that’s not diabetic. Lots of poking and annoying your kitty just for curiosity’s sake :cat:

For me a non-diabetic curve would be educational to know the natural highs and lows.

So, for a normal cat I guess their blood glucose is around 150 all the time? Or is it higher and lower at certain times of the day? Then it goes up after each meal? If the cat has a normal insulin response and can handle both low carb and high carb foods equally well, typically how high does a normal cat go after eating a meal?

There's some discussion in this thread regarding some BG testing on a cat that is not on insulin.
Thank you. That was educational.

My vet also told me to feed Skipper only twice a day. So, I put everybody on the twice a day routine. Is twice a day harming the other cats by making their pancreas work harder?

You might find some kitties who are now OTJ and look at their OTJ trials? I'd be curious to see a non-diabetics curve as well. If I still had strips I might do it on my tomcat, he's laid back enough lol.

We don't recommend limiting diabetics to twice a day, most of us feed 4-10 times in a 24 hr period. I would feed my girl at AMPS, +2, +4, +5, PMPS, +2, +4, and +5.

On a human meter, you are more likely to see numbers in the 50-80 range for a normal cat. The only time I poked my non diabetics (not a curve) and also friends who requested it, I've seen from high 40's to low 90's - and that one was on prednisolone. His numbers came down when his pred dose was reduced.
