Any recommendations for liquid B12?

I've been looking around for some liquid B12 supplement to give Georgie. Ordered a bottle from Amazon, but it contains xyletol, therefore not pet friendly.

He's been shying away from the BG tests and eating like crazy! But his BG has been so high, I'm getting worried. Brought him Tuesday night for another curve test. I'm hoping they increase his dose. I was told to give him 2 units twice a day, but the last couple of days I've been giving him 2.25 units.

FYI, I have found a website in Canada where I can purchase his insulin. I know where to order the needles. Testing strips and lancets are easy. It's just a safe B12 supplement I'm missing now

This is what I used. They are capsules and open easily. Just sprinkle on top of food & mix in. My cat never noticed it was in there. They are from Vitacost and they ship to Canada.

There are 2 George's here right now on the message board, Had both spreadsheets open and had to make sure which one was which! :joyful:

Insulin dose changes are based on the nadir, or lowest numbers during the cycle. Please don't let your vet change the dose based on only the pre-shot test BG (blood glucose) number. When your vet does the curve, the blood glucose levels may be elevated from vet stress. Keep that in mind, if the vet recommends a dose increase.

The vet should also give you a copy of the curve numbers. Any current or past BG tests done at the vet can be entered on the spreadsheet (SS). Those BG readings will be useful to have on the SS, and see what they are.

You shouldn't base a change in the insulin dose on only the pre-shot number either. Georgie could very well be bouncing from a low during the middle of the cycle. No way to tell that, since there are no BG tests then, but it's a strong possibility.

p.s. Are you recovered from the car accident? Feeling better? We certainly hope so.

I was actually going to ask about this. A few days after I got home, Georgie's BG was pretty high. Then our bunny crossed the rainbow bridge, and that was more stress. Bunny was Georgie's bestest friend and he's been looking for her. And his BG went way way high. That's also when he started giving me a hard time with his AMPS and PMPS. So I thought it best to wait until the vet did another curve test herself. But if you look, he's mostly in the pink, one morning red, a few times yellow. So I asked my vet friend (I so wish she lived here) about it and she said that I should maybe give him .25 more insulin until the curve test.

AGAIN the vet refused to use my glucometer! I'm so angry. So my other question is, can I still use her numbers but note that it's a different glucometer? (Hopefully she'll actually tell me what kind she uses). At least this time she took my food for him. And let me leave is bed with him (he used to share that with bunny, so I thought it might comfort him).

PS. Thank you for asking. I went for my follow up and was sternly told by the doctor that I'm supposed to be resting (I still have neck pain and migraines). But I have Georgie to take care of first!

THANK YOU for being present of mind and reading the ingredients before administering! You may have saved your kitties life!:bighug:

I'm going to be honest here. Reading labels is something I'm still learning to do. And in this case, I didn't read it until after I opened the bottle. I was measuring out the dose and it was so thick and syrupy. So I tasted it. Some alarms went off and that's when I read the label. Close call, and certainly a wake up one!

So sorry about your girl bun-bun Bunny's loss. Our pets do notice when another member of the home is gone and they grieve too.:(

Yes, absolutely. Put those BG numbers from the curve done at the vet and note it in the Remarks column on the SS.

Any vet that will not tell you what method of blood glucose monitoring, what specific equipment they are using to test your cat is not working in a partnership with you. That is what you need to happen, a partnership, not someone that is unwilling to answer your questions. Your vet should still be able to tell you if the BG tests were done with a human meter (and which one specifically), a pet meter (and which one specifically), or what in house lab equipment (Idexx, Antech, etc.) was used.

When you live alone, there isn't always someone around to lend a hand when you need one. Reality meets stern admonishments and scolding from your doctor head on.

Omg I never thought about them using lab equipment rather than a glucometer! So much to learn. Thank you for the info. I'm determined to show my vet that I'm not some useless pet owner she can milk money from. I take this very seriously, I'm researching like mad, and thanks to my friend and the people here, a great support system. Yes, still a lot to learn, but I'm so much more informed than the day he was diagnosed! If she threatens to withhold his insulin again, I found a site just one province over that sells it. And with next day delivery! I'm not going to just blindly follow everything she says. Georgie is MY baby, and I will actively treat him armed with information! I raised two children singlehandedly and they survived. I can do this!

Oh, one more question. Should I not do Georgie's PMPS tonight? I'm sure he'll be stressed out from his curve tonight and won't want to be poked some more.
