Yes Sandy, Tom is.
I have him on SubQ....but I have been reading quite a few posts over in health about cats strange and sudden food aversion.
Wanted to get a head count and see if food choice plays a role (food poisoning?) or what similarities there may be.

Gosh Lori, I hope it hasn't been too long. Is he on a total hunger strike?

BK went on what I referred to as a "Wellness Strike" at one point. I fed him Wellness exclusively for months. One day - -he was done with it. I wondered if there was something wrong with the food, it seemed so odd he just didn't want any part of it. He gobbled up FF though, from that point on. A couple of times I tried too see if he would go back to Wellness - no way.

I do hope your kitty is eating something.I'm at tbp and can't see his ss to get a feel for his BG numbers- Are you checking for ketones?

Sandy, aside from the day we went to the vetty bean and tom had a complete nervouse breakdown he is showing remarkable numbers. Rarely over 115 amps or pmps.
I syringe fed him in the beginning, now he is eatting about 1/3 his normal amount of daily food, sometimes less sometimes more. Blood work all came back good.
It's not particularly hot where I live so I've ruled that out.
Just don't know....but being the hoover he was, and an avid hunter/eater this change is kind of....well....freakin me out!

I always give my hunger strike kitties pepcid 2x daily, a metoclopramide/reglan pill for nausea and or a mertazipine. Always seems to do the trick. And if I'm totally desperate I will let him eat a bit of low carb dry food like Orijen. He loves dry food even though he's exclusively on wet food. I know if he refuses dry food then something is seriously wrong. Sometimes they just need a jumpstart & by getting food- any food in them it kicks things into gear.

Oh Punky, we have tried EVERYTHING! he will eat 'some' crack..especially the H/C stuff. but not enuf. occassionally he will eat his normal meal.
I've done the pepcid.
I'm now doing prescription ondansetron 1mg which is an anti nausea drup I acutally used during chemo (only much higher dose)
I'm suspicious of his empty bowls in the morning because I simply can't believe he's eating all that in the middle of the night (I've actually thought,...rodents?) Tom was never a middle night eater....
And like I said it is not hot here during the days...
Thanks for the words tho'.

I've had two cats progressively refuse to eat to the point they wouldn't touch their favorites. Both times, it ended up being IBD, and unless it's caused by food allergies, it's treated with steroids. The first cat went from 16lbs to 11.5lbs and we didn't realize there was a problem because she free fed. We switched to wet food, and that's when we noticed her diminishing appetite. 4 days after the start of prednisolone, she was back to eating and 1.5 years later, she's back up to 16lbs. We've tried to wean her off the pred, but she stops eating.

The second cat just recently stopped eating. He was put on budesonide 5 days ago and is eating again(same food he refused). The clear sign for me was that they were still begging to eat, but turned their noses up at anything I put down(and I mean anything. I tried every food from every store close to me). With diabetes though, treatment is a concern. I chose to go with budesonide this time because it's localized in the intestines and is prone to fewer side-effects, but I would assume it would still affect blood glucose.

One other thing that worked for me was pureeing their food. They devour the food when it's pureed, but don't touch it when it's not.

Good luck,

Jason
