Antibiotic question

Ruby was on Baytril for her bladder infection until this past Friday. During that time, her numbers were kind of all over the place.
Since the last dose, she's been much more consistent but higher...low to mid 300s.

My question is, could the antibiotic affect her glucose level, making them lower?

Infections can cause BG's to be high, and/or all over the place (from my experience w/ a cat who was constantly having infections).

If the infection is clear, BG's could be lower, or more stable/consistent.

Have you had a recheck to make sure the a/b did the job? How long was Ruby on baytril? It would be good to make sure the infection is gone, especially with the higher BG's. Infection + High BG's are some factors that can lead to ketones/DKA. Maybe you could check Ruby's urine for ketones with ketostix if you have any (or could get some).

How is her food/water intake?

She started the baytril on the 23rd and finished Friday, so a full two weeks. We have an appointment on Tuesday for her to go in and spend the day at the vet's office to get both a curve done and a test to make sure the bladder infection is gone. They're not going to put her in a cage with the room with the rest of the cats. They promised that they'll set aside an exam room for her to hang out in for the day.

She's still drinking a lot of water, but isn't hanging over her bowl or anything. She's eaten better yesterday and today than she has since this started. lt seems like the Fancy Feast Classic Tender Beef, Classic Beef & Liver and the Fiskies Special Diet Beef & Liver are the favorites out of everything we've tried. I have some FortiFlora on order and it should be here on Tuesday. She's definitely got more spunk that she's had in a couple of weeks. She's getting back to her normal bossy self.

Reminder - a curve done at the vet's may have results that are higher (often) or lower (occasionally) than what is observed at the vet's office.

And the test to do is not sa imple cystocentesis and looking at it under a microscope; it is culture and sensitivy - see what will grow and what will kill it off.
