So today Robbie had another visit from the house call vet - It's been too long since he really did a proper poop (probably 10 days with only 3 good eliminaitons in that entire time( . Our vet was closed Wed and Thursday - when I called Friday they were jammed up but he called back and suggested I see if the house call vet who came before would come by over the weekend if there was no improvement (Robbie has not been on the Cisapride that long) - Robbie is FAR less stressed out at home for the enema and his litter box is right here so no chance of car messes as well - after the last horrific experience with the enema at the Vet we decided it would be good to catch him before he was really THAT backed up - so I arranged for her to come today and she examined him and said it wasn't "too bad" so with a much more gentle enema (just a little warm soapy water and some lube) she cleaned him out - we were both shocked to say the least at what came out (more than either of us expected but all soft so something is working and it's clear this is NOT a drying up problem) - but NOW the cisapride has a much better chance to work - so we will continue with that and are upping his miralax to 1/4 teaspoon bid (and the lactulose 3ml bid if he doesn't start pooping at least every other day, a legit amount this week). He's been going a bit every day just not much - she feels his cisapride should be increased too but didn't want to have me do that without speaking to our regular vet which I will do tomorrow.
Again I am way behind in his SS - was going to get to that this weekend but I ended up in the ER for 6 hours yesterday with a miserable asthma attack - told the vet my current joke (for people who know Robbie has diabetes, asthma and mega colon) - "I've got diabetes too, asthma too but if I get mega colon I'm tossing in the towel LOL" Anyway - I'm on meds now which should make things all OK (asthma has been pretty much non- existent for years and years until last summer) but it was a loooong weekend. His numbers have been so/so - still mostly low to mid 200's except for amps and pmps when it's generally mid to high 300's - this morning he was SO vocal and upset at 4am I gave him a full can with miralax in it - I was so asleep I didn't test him. At 5:15 when I gave him his shot I tested and he was 415 - but he had JUST eaten a full can so ... At any rate - after the emptying out today he was playing and using his scratcher and messing with the dog - than he spent the evening on the couch next to me (which he hasn't done in ages) so I know he was feeling good. I was busy most of the night but just tested him now at pmps +6 and he's 237 - not thrilled at that but it was a stressful day for him even if he was feeling relieved.
We go in some time after the 15th for the fructosamine test at the Vets - my guess is we'll be moving to 5.5 BID or maybe 6 but probably 5.5. I will get the SS updated before than so its easier for any of you so inclined to give us some input. Thank you as always!
