Let's hope he "levels" out now. Did you get my message on the SS? Make sure you speak to the vet on the "no Convenia" shot....not the receptionists, not the vet tech, THE VET.

Yup got it.

Have to read the links.

Great......slowing down. Ya know, Sev.....after the dental is done, gum infection cleared up, Kitty MIGHT go off needing insulin BUT if he doesn't go into remission, you know what to do, how to handle a situation, and remember that even now Kitty is enjoying life, running around with Blue and is happy.

Things are looking pretty good. Its still early in the game OTJ. The sooner the better if its going to happen.

The does not use Metacam on cats.
Since Clindamycin is being used the Convenia wont be used.
No antibiotic in the morning.

I like the new vet more and more, Sev

Me to.

By the way. Have you heard about anybody making natural beef, chicken or turkey stock to supplement canned food? No additives. Just making straight stock from boiling a carcass and bones?

+9 138. Cruising along.

Nope. If you want to make raw, Dr. Lisa's site has the recipe. I don;t think kitties would be happy always licking up stock alone unless you planned to add it into their canned food.

What I was getting at to add to the canned food. Kitty eats better when the canned has some gravy. Stock=gravy. If your making raw and grinding everything then is should have the same carbs as stock.

Hope is right. And NO METACAM!!

Speak to the vet directly and have them repeat it back to you so you know they understand.

They dont use metacam on cats.
Already checked.

Beauregard is a gravy houn...errr...kitty. He loves it. I made some super beef stock a few weeks ago and used it as gravy sauce over his canned food. He totally loved it. Used some sheets of gelatin for a thickening agent and reduced the stock to about 1/4 of full volume. Stock boiled with carrots and peas for a little extra flavor...no onions! I'm sure it wasn't zero carb, but he didn't have any big BG reactions to it so I'm thinking it was OK.

However, I was totally shocked when the local supermarket charge me $12.00 for a package of bones to make the stock. Grrr.

Save your bones from your own cooking ie roast a chicken, boil the unseasoned carcass for stock; broil a steak with bone in, take the bone for stock, etc.

Have you tried adding a little bit of warm water, make it kinda soupy? Maybe he'll think it is gravy ;-)

Been doing that. The Wellness does not have the right consistency.
Now if warm up the Merrick Cowboy Cookout its a done deal and I dont have to add anything. Unfortunately the Merrick cost a lot more.

I live alone (well, obviously I live with Boo but our diets are quite different) and very rarely cook anything besides veggies and salads. The stock for Beauregard was the first thing I've "cooked" at home in over two years.

@ mystery. Gelatin was my next question. How many carbs in that. I noticed Blue Wilderness Turkey had a lot of it in there with only 2 carbs.

@BJM. Thats what I was thinking of doing.
When we cook a turkey we dont stuff it. However we put a whole onion in the cavity.

Gelatin is carb free, Sev. Its made from various connective tissues, bones, hooves, etc., of cows and pigs. I was worried about carbs in the peas.

Hmmmm.
And its cheap.
Also when you make stock with foul you also make a form of gelatin.

Sev, choose wisely tonight if you shoot because he cannot have food later if he should run too low. Also, make sure you post as soon as you hear from the vet after the dental.

Ahhh. hmmmmmm.

Probably .25 just so he is not really high going into the vets.
He should be near 300 based on the rate of rise. Unless of course he decided to surf.

Looks like he will get down into the 200's with the lower dose. +4 and @ 300.
Only went down 50 points in 2 hours.

Looks like .5u is his number for the evening dosage. He only got down into the 200's by the looks of things at the reduced dosage.
