Someone who frequents the same independent local pet store I do told me about this new brand she saw just last week and bought some to try on her cats. The cat food is all canned and looks pretty good ingredient wise  It's all grain-free but also mostly seafood based :-| I waiting to hear from her if the cans are in gravy as the web site says or just in cooking liquid. If it's just cooking liquid, then the food might be ok for diabetics as an occasional treat/meal. The tapioca might not be good for carb sensitive diabetics. The cans are 2.8 oz each, not a full 3 oz like other brands. So you get less food for about the same price as a brand with 3 oz cans :?

Looks like more and more smaller and new pet food companies are going grain-free now :-D Now if they can only make food that is both grain-free and guaranteed low carb for diabetics ;-)

The feeding instructions seem low. It says:

Weight Of Cat:
Weight of Cat 10 lbs 20 lbs 40 lbs
Cans Daily 3/4 to 1 1-3/4 to 2 1-1/4 to 1-1/2
Feeding Instructions: An average 8-10 lb. cat will eat about 1 can daily. Adjust as needed for your cat's age and activity. Refrigerate unused portion up to 36 hours. Provide plenty of fresh water.

There are on 2.8 oz cans.
Ships in cases of 24 2.8 oz cans

More is recommended for a 20 lb cat thatn a 40 lb cat.

No calories per can/once listed. Also, no statment regard the AFFCO standard. I know it is not the best but it has some good requirements

The Chicken and Samba variety has 252 Kcals per 2.8 oz can. That's a lot of calories for one little can. I guess that's why it is suggested to feed one can for an avaerage 10 pound cat. A 10 pound cat shouldn't need more than 200 to 250 calories per day.

That seems high. Where did you get that value?

I contacted the company. Here is the response:

"Thank you for contacting Against The Grain Pet Foods and for your interest in our fine pet foods. The Chicken and Pumpkin Samba for cats 2.8oz can has 252 Kcals per can. We are currently updating our website to this information.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact myself at anytime.

Per 2.8 oz can? That's more calories than Bandit gets in his current 6 oz of food a day! @-) You might want to ask again, though, just to make sure that they gave you the right info. If 252 is right, then that makes it more than double the highest calorie foods on the food charts, and I don't see how that is possible.

Look at the moisture content! Roughly 5% higher than I see in Wellness Turkey & Giblet. Pricey wqter!
And palm oil??? Not many carnivores eat palms.

And I think their math may be screwy:
Version 1 using percentages of wet weight
2.8 oz = 79.379 grams
0.12 protein minimum * 79.379 grams = 9.52548 grams protein @ 3.5 calories per gram = 33.33918 calories from protein
0.02 fat minimum * 79.379 grams = 0.1905096 grams fat minimum @ 8.5 calories per gram = 1.6193316 calories from fat
You'd need about 26 grams of fat in order to add up to the 252 calories this way:
(252 - 33.33918) / 8.5 = about 26 grams of fat ... from said palm oil.

version 2 using dry weight
100% - 83.5% water = 16.5% dry weight
79.379 grams * 0.165 = 13.097535 grams dry matter
13.097535 * 8.5 = 111.3290475 if all fat grams
13.097535 * 3.5 = 45.8413725 if all protein grams
this results in numbers that are too low, so cannot be correct, either.
