Another Hypo scare for Loki today

I just updated his SS but this afternoon he went down to 47- gave him karo on his gums, and some food, he then went up to 78, had to leave for awhile(hated to) but when I got home and rechecked him he is now at 391. Thank goodness for the Hypo link here. I followed it and it worked. I also called my vet and she said just give him karo, that was it. I am trying to find another vet who can give me a second look at Loki's health. I am so sad for him that I have not been able to solve this since Feb of this year. I have reread the sugar cat letter many times and it does help.
I need to watch now for loki's #'s tonight at 8 PM to see where he is at, from what I have read here he may have some high #'s in that case I would hold his shot I believe, please let me know if this is correct.

Yes, he will probably be high today but you are right, it is most likely a bounce from the lower number. I would reduce the dose by a little. How much did you give him this am?

The next time he goes down in the 40s, give him some regular food and see if it brings him up. (Test in 20 minutes to see) If it doesn't, pour some of the gravy off the higher carb food and give him some of that and retest. Sometimes it doesn't take the Karo to bring up the numbers. If you can just use the food, it is better. Karo can jump up the numbers and they can stay there and climb higher. Sometimes just using the food keeps him more on a even keel. If you want, when you get a number in the 40s, post here or on Health and people can guide you through the food method to get him up.

You are doing fine. He is interesting that he does seem to go from highs to lows pretty fast. Are you sure giving him small frequent meals?

Hi, just rechecked him and he is high just as I thought ( I am learning ) he is 432 now. He is on 1 1/2 unit 2xs per day so now I am thinking that I should give him .75 or even 1/2. I am leaning on the 1/2 just hope it works out ok for my boy.
Yes, Sue and Oliver to answer your ? about how often Loki eats, he gets about 2 oz or maybe more every 2-3 hrs except at night.

If you can watch him tonight, I think one unit would be okay. If you can't monitor as it is overnight, then .75

My thinking is that your 47 wasn't a super low number, so I wouldn't overreact and chop the dose by a lot.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so fast, just gave him .75 and he is eating his last meal for tonight till morning. He is acting fine except this is the first time he has acted so hungry. I just printed out the General rule for treating Hypo, which I will always keep handy.
