This is a follow-up post from Thursday & Friday regarding starting glucose testing on Tommy. He is still thankfully allowing us to do it and putting just a little bit of a fuss. I am not skilled at it and god bless his little sugar soul he is tolerating it as best and patiently as he can. It takes me about 3-4 attempts to get a reading. UGH! I know I will get better at this.
So, I finally was able to get a glucose sample on Tom yesterday (YEAY) and it was 234 mg after having breakfast about 6 hours prior. I was ecstatic, even though I know this is still high but nothing compared to his previous number at the vet which was about 468 mg (testing was done while he was sedated cause he was growling so bad). Today I took another reading about an hour after his meal and it was 265 mg. Today we go to the vet to be taught how to inject the insulin and everything involved. He will be started on insulin today.
Can someone please give me an idea about his numbers. I know they are high, but considering he has not started on the insulin as yet, how bad are they?
Thank you all always, Mimi
