Angel..was it even a hypo??

So everyone knows how picky cats can be....

When Angel was on dry food (due to a diet) he would do anything to steal the girls wet food. Now he's on the wet, he wants the dry, I've kept him away from it. When I assumed he was having the hypo, he was ignoring his wet food and looking everywhere for dry and I thought he was desperately hungry. His bg WAS very low though, 45 (2.2 UK).

Anyway, now I've noticed him ignoring the wet and going round the house looking for bits of dry food when his bloods have been in the normal range. Is it possible even with the low numbers that he wasn't having a hypo but just being a cat?? I'm feeding him purina dm canned, along with these brands available in uk gourmet pate (6-7% carbs) Smilla poultry (2.2 carbs) and Lily's kitchen (no carbs) and varying them.

You may find that the more even you can keep the incoming carb level, the more stable Angel's glucose levels.

Also, overnight, many cats drop lower, so that is a better time to use the higher level carb (ex 8 %) rather than the 2% in the fish flavor.

When my cat's numbers drop low, or very fast, he often gets hungry. In fact, sometimes it's his need for food that alerts me to the fact that his glucose is low.

Maybe Angel is doing something similar (but his taste is for dry food!).
When cats are newly diagnosed and in high blood glucose numbers it can take them a while to get used to normal numbers again. They can get a little 'twitchy' even in numbers that are perfectly safe. (And in some cats the liver puts out glucose into the system to raise the blood glucose level as a protection measure (causing 'rebound' or 'bounce')).

Is it possible to feed all the cats wet food...? I'm just wondering if that would be one way to stop Angel seeking it out...?

Looking at Angel's spreadsheet, he seems to drop lower in the day than at night. I've more or less cut out wet food, apart from leaving some in a dish on my bed for Lianna to graze on when I know Angel's not around, and giving Cera some occasionally. It's not really practical to leave wet food on the bed for her, ugh, and she's probably too blonde to use a timed feeder. She's nearly 19 with HCM and for the past 7 years since her diagnosis I've been making her life as easy as possible. I've got quite a bit of Hill's senior and Hill's MD. What Angel was doing was going to where I'd fed the girls and looking for any bits they might have knocked onto the floor. He seems to prefer the Gourmet pate to the other types of wet.

Elizabeth, hopefully we can chat sometime. I found what I think is the Thrive freeze dried chicken you mentioned, it says Thrive 100% chicken treats (they do other flavours too) and they were (I think) £3.36 for a 25 gram tube, so if that's cheaper than what you pay, I can bring you some.
