Angel HYPO, is vet's advice right?

hi, am shaking right now.

Had a feeling something was wrong, was about to test Angel anyway when he came into the lounge scrounging for bits of food but wouldn't touch the wet I'd given him. Tested him urgently and he was 2.5/45. Immediately gave him dry food with honey on, called vet fed. tested again and up to 3.4/ 61. Rang vet again, shoved some honey in his mouth and gave him more dried food. She said to keep testing till he's up to about 8.3 and if I'm at all worried bring him in. Think I'm going to have to take him in but emergency vets miles away and I don't have transport. Going to ring around to see how much cab will cost, do you think I should take him in or wait and carry on monitoring? UPDATE, S*D the expense we're going, he's my baby, £90 consultation, £11 cab one way but hes worth it. Pray for my extra sweet boy x

How long after the shot did you get that 2.5?
How is Angel now?

You've done absolutely the right thing by giving the honey etc.
I know how scary this is. But you are doing great.

You may need to
Test
Give 1-2 teaspoons high carb wet if possible, dry if not & honey
Wait 20-30 min
Repeat, until past nadir and 3 or more rising numbers
 
just posting very quickly from friends place, will do a proper update later, but they said Angel has no neurological damage, they are keeping him in for a curve and fructosamine but suspect early remission, which would be great. My lovely friends met me there and have taken me back to their place to feed me. I'll be in touch with an update when I'm home, THANK GOD for this board and thank god I printed out hypo instructions.

Just spoke to vets and Angel's bg is up to 5.4, they said he's chilled out and happy. Strange but I KNEW he'd have a hypo today, I just sensed it. I did a 3rd reading and he was 3.6, but took honey and food in the cab with me and shoved some honey in his mouth.

I was so, so scared when he had the hypo, but I did not convey that to him, and luckily it did not take me 20 goes each time to get a decent blood sample. Strange how I can fall to pieces over little things, but can act calm in a crisis. It's not often I think I did ok, but tonight I think well I may have done the wrong thing earlier but I did all the right things when it counted.

I was feeling so horribly guilty thinking I should not have given him the 2 units, maybe 1.5. But looking on the good side, this place may be a pain to get to but it is a proper 24 hour vet hospital, he will be monitored and they will be able to find out exactly what's going on. Another few days of his numbers being between 5.1 and 25 wouldn't do him (or me) much good.

So just me and the girls tonight, Matt (my honorary baby brother) gave me a lift home so I'm going to chill out and watch rubbish on the tv.

Sounds like you did an absolutely fantastic job managing Angel's hypo on Sunday. Hope the vet is right, and Angel is in remission.
