Angel's mommie

Member Since 2017
Hi everyone! I've been lurking on this group for some months now and have been so impressed with the level of knowledge and helpfulness, that decided to join :).

Quick intro:
Angel is an almost 14 year old rescue (possible tabby/siamese mix, long haired) and the love of my life. We also have two other rescues, all getting up there in age (14, 15), lol.

--He was diagnosed with diabetes about 2 years ago, but went into remission on Lantus within a few months.
--Long story short, was treated with steroids for severe IBD in June 2016 which, as we'd been warned, brought back the diabetes.
-- So he's been back on Lantus since. I began very low as per the vet -- as many on this forum have discussed, vets don't want to take chances. However, inspired by this (and other) groups (and I fully understand that you only give 'advice' NOT expert opinion, and it is entirely up to me as to whether I decide to follow that advice or not ;-)) I am now trying the Start Low Go Slow protocol. I began it in a somewhat haphazard way, but am trying to fine tune it more and more. I keep very careful records and will post them once I figure out where to do so here.
-- My mom and family are in India, and I spend summer etc with them and we also travel a lot, so I'm trying very hard to get Angel into remission once again. May or may not happen, I know...but am trying so so so hard! This last winter break we took a road trip with all three kitties so we could travel AND give him his insulin :) + test him. He is a rescue and very skittish, so a vet tech/boarding are not good options; plus I'm guessing those would send his BG soaring.

That's it for now! Thanks for reading. I do have some questions so will now head on to other forums.

I also want to say a huge THANK YOU and express total gratitude for whoever began this site, and all those who keep it going, both the moderators (or whatever), and all the members.
