She just couldn't stand it that she was doing so well....so this morning Ms Fancy Pants ate about a fourth of my bagel (Knew I should have guarded it after I put cream cheese on it) then at lunch I had just dished up my spaghetti and stuck it in the microwave...Guess who knows how to open the microwave....yep Musette she had a wonderful time helping herself to my bowl of pasta...Now where is that head banging icon?

OMG! *LMAO* I know it's not funny when you're trying to regulate her BG levels, but Musette is one serious carb freak! Is she related to Garfield (the lasagne eating cartoon cat)?

Re: And we were doing so well this morning amps 145, pmps 37

I can relate for sure; Shadow was the same, always stealing my stuff every chance she could get.
I hope she enjoyed the snacks but she must be suffering now with those high numbers.

That is actually the funniest part about it...up until now she has looked at me when I have offered her human food with distain, but for some reason today she had a carb attack...walked away from her FF twice only to 5 minutes later be whiskers deep in carbs.

Told her I hoped she enjoyed herself because now she gets to feel icky again. next I'm going to break it to her that pretty soon she is going to have a new sister and she better not let that little girl beat her to OTJ...

Mel, sorry, but the funniest part is Musette opening the microwave to get at your pasta! haha_smiley

What I also love is that you are just taking this in stride!

Re: And we were doing so well this morning amps 145, pmps 37

In a few months you will too, it is a live and learn kind of thing...One day of higher numbers isn't going to kill her, and hopefully she will learn her lesson about stealing food...doubtful but one can always hope.. ohmygod_smile

If you think I'm calm about this event wait until the next time she decides to throw me a 30 mid-cycle....that has become a walk in the park too. Just pull out the food and start testing and feeding until she comes back up.

Pretty soon you learn that panic doesn't get you anywhere and is only going to do more harm than good, so you take what they throw at you in stride and live to dance another day.

That goes totally against my way of life/MO for my last 55 years! *LMAO* Like I've said before, I swore that I was born without the patience gene.

But, this DX of Pumbaa has caused me to change, a lot! I would hate to think that Pumbaa was given diabetes in order for me to learn what I am supposed to learn during this lifetime, but who knows? Weirder things have happened.

Thank you for your much appreciated support, Mel! You have no clue how much it means to me!

Re: And we were doing so well this morning amps 145, pmps 37

I seriously doubt that she will connect the carbo loading with the icky feeling. She will probably blame it on you somehow. Did you talk sternly to her? Well, there you go.

One of my torties is a bread fiend. She will get bread and rolls off of high shelves - then onto the floor where Beau can get into them.

I definitely think they are sent to us to learn what we need to learn. Those of us with more cats are NOT learning our lessons!

Re: And we were doing so well this morning amps 145, pmps 37

Oh she got a very stern talking too. And she seams to have listened as her +3 was 271....and run for about 20 minutes with the laser pointer.

Well I am a Taurus, so yeah I'm probably stubborn enough that God saw fit to send me lots of cats to teach me many lessons...lol. And I apparently wasn't learning them fast enough since I will soon have two tortie teachers..

Hopefully Lulu will teach Musette how to play nice with the numbers game...yeah I know wishful thinking.

Much better morning today, looks like she cleared her carb fest yesterday pretty quickly...amps - 78

But now that I know how skilled she is with her paws and the microwave, looks like I'm going to have to find a new "safe" place for food  We started sticking stuff in the microwave when we adopted Maxwell because he was terrible about jumping on the counters to get to everything he wasn't suppose to have, but up until yesterday Musette has never jumped on anything higher than the bed... I didn't think she liked to jump very high since she is front declawed and seemed nervous about jumping to anything much higher because if she misjudged she could grab and hang on...fooled me.

I'm beginning to feel like I'm running a daycare for 2 year olds.. I have baby locks on the cupboards to keep Patches from opening them all up and digging out the food, all paper has to be under lock and key to keep Bert (the pica cat) from eating it, the bathroom vanity has to be tied shut to keep Lady Jane Grey from opeing that and shredding the tolit paper. And now I have to see if they make a baby lock for a microwave if I want a safe place to quickly stash a sandwich  On the upside, I guess the house is now babyproofed for when the grandkids visit...lol

Wow, Mel, she's getting great numbers after that carb fest!

Yep, I have those child-proof locks on my cabinets, too...all because of Pumbaa. And I never used to be able to have toilet paper on rolls - the rolls had to be hidden in the cabinets under the sink. Pumbaa could shred a roll of TP in about ten seconds. I'll have to make sure he doesn't read about Musette's ability to open the microwave or he'll try that, too! *LOL*

Re: And we were doing so well this morning amps 145, pmps 37

Jeddie was a toilet paper shredder before I put him on prozac (for other reasons). Just saying.

I use the micro sometimes - its not easy to open even for me. But I put bread in the cabinet above the oven hood. They can't get to it there!

Any chance she was jonesing for carbs yesterday because he was dropping too fast? With that 78 at PS, maybe she actually needs a tiny dose reduction?

Re: And we were doing so well this morning amps 145, pmps 37

that was one of the things I thought about but she really didn't drop much during the day yesterday, and well the bagel I think was more about her passion for Cream Cheese. That girl is an absolute addict for cream cheese, you can hear her purr across the room when she smells cream cheese..lol. Not sure what possessed her to go after the pasta. Except that perhaps she saw herself in the door and was trying to get the kitty on the door and just got the door latch and discovered there was food in there...she is a vain little girl and will sit for hours talking to herself in my full length mirror.. She also keep turning up her nose at her Fancy Feast yesterday and going after the other cats Friskies, which of course they happily finished off her FF.

Oh, dear! At least it wasn't Sneakers with her tendancy to then hoard the carbs in her body for weeks  .

Try making a daisy chain of rubber bands and slide it over the microwave. Not pretty but effective for the short run.
