An update on Emmett

It’s been a while since I’ve visited the forum, but everyone here was so helpful when Emmett was diagnosed with diabetes last year. I thought I would provide an update on Emmett. Unfortunately it’s not great.

Emmett went into remission back in December, and since then he’s been great in terms of his diabetes. He’s had more energy than ever and has just generally been a total goofball.

However, over the past couple months we noticed that Emmett was drooling and getting progressively worse. He’s always been a drooler in his sleep, so it took a bit for it to get to the point where we realized it needed to be checked out.

Today we went to the vet and got some bad news. Emmett has a mass on the back of his tongue. It’s pretty large. I don’t know how I never noticed it. His lymph node on the side with the mass is also swollen.

The vet told me oral masses are usually not good and she’s very concerned. He’s scheduled for removal/biopsy, and in the meantime we’re going to try antibiotics to see if maybe it’s an infection.

I feel like I just got my cat back after the diabetes, so I think this is a little bit unfair. He’s only 4. I just keep thinking I would LOVE to be dealing with the diabetes again instead.

I wish all the best for everyone else’s kitties and their diabetes, and their owners.

Oh boy, that is absolutely not fair, I'm so sorry you have to walk through this and worry. I hope everything turns out ok. :bighug::bighug: Besides the drooling any other signs of concern?

Thanks. It’s been.. a lot. But no, no other signs of concern. He’s eating fine, tons of energy, no signs of pain (even keeping in mind cats are good at hiding pain), and he’s gained a bit of weight after going into remission. I’m hoping that’s a good sign, but also don’t want to get my hopes up.

I think my one hope is that Emmett does get eosinophilic granuloma. Usually this is on the paw and lips for him. But he hasn’t had one in months since I cut out chicken (and then cut out the rabbit flavour that secretly had chicken). Best case scenario is that this is what is happening with his tongue. The vet didn’t bring that up (and I was way too overwhelmed to think of it), but he also didn’t see his usual vet today.
