Hi All,

It's been a few days since I last posted about Bailey so I thought I'd fill you all in.

I spoke with the doctor last Thursday about Bailey's diarrhea and she prescribed Metronidazole to help cure that. She also wanted to completely STOP insulin entirely and to call the vet if she was above 400 for more than 36 hours or 3 different 12 hour testings. Here are her numbers from the past few days...

3/3 PM: 216
3/4 AM: 350
3/4 PM: 342
3/5 AM: 298
3/5 PM: 287
3/6 AM: 283
3/6 PM: 265
3/7 AM: 248
3/7 PM: 246
3/8 AM: 235

She spiked on Monday but as you can see, it's been a steady decline since. The vet INSISTED we see a specialist this week as well. I was apprehensive as I thought I can do a good job monitoring and testing Bailey, but the vet really wanted us to go and forward Bailey's papers along. We had our appointment this morning. The specialist listened to everything, said I was doing a good job and to keep doing what I'm doing, and she wanted to test Baileys blood and urine.

Total charge: $220!!

I'm still a little upset over that because I know Bailey is doing okay and I didn't need to spend two hundred dollars for someone to tell me everything I already knew! We were out the door within 15 minutes. Sigh.

Bailey is still off of her insulin and the vet doesn't want us to go back on unless she jumps high and stays there. I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

The only problem that I see in those numbers is that she is still well into diabetic numbers and a lot of the time over the renal threshhold so there is still a chance that there is organ damage happening. Remember normal for a cat on a human meter is 40-120...Bailey is still well above that. If she was mine I would definitely have her on some form of insulin.

I spoke with the vet and she said she was much more concerned about hypoglycemia than Bailey being in the 200s and she said to continue without insulin.

Here are some more numbers...

3/8 PM: 243 - First rise, but this was after her vet visit, so it was expected
3/9 AM: 235
3/9 PM: 232
3/10 AM: 224
3/10 PM: 206
3/11 AM: 198 - Last dose of Metronidazole
3/11 PM: 199
3/12 AM: 185

Glad to see her starting to drop below 200 on her own that is a really good sign. She may yet be a diet controlled and might just have been an infection that kept her high. Thanks for the update! :-D
