AMPS BG 153 no insulin again. Is this ok?

Hi All

Thanks for the help last night.

I tested Babee this morning and her AMPS was Bg 153. I gave no insulin and fed her after the test. She ate a little and a few chicken breast treats. She used the litter box this morning tried to poop but nothing. She had the diarrhea once yesterday from Miralax, so I don't think she is consitpated. Her urine output has been smaller since she has been eating less. She seems fine otherwise. Should I take her to the vet tomorrow?

I am going to go get a different meter, since everyone has mention the troubles with Freestyle meters. I will test her this evening with the new one and see were she is at.

Yes, this is not a shootable number for a new diabetic. And I am thinking she is low partly because her appetite is off. Have you tried these ideas?

Warm the food up so it is nice and stinky
Put some tuna juice or parmesan cheese on top
Put one of her favorite treats on top of the food

I think a vet visit would be a good idea, just to see what is going on digestive wise. Little appetite, not pooping is not a good thing.

We all look forward to helping you and Babee. How do you feel about setting up a spreadsheet and recording Babee's test, so everyone can view the data? I am not a SS guru or I would offer to help you, but we do have a resident EXPERT if you are interested!

Hi Sue,

Babee is not a new diabetic. She was DX in 10/2008 and been on insulin since. I just got a Relion micri at walmart so this evenings test should be interesting. Is there any reason to test her prior to the pmps, since she has missed 2 shots?

I think you can wait till pmps.

Sorry, didn't see that she had been on insulin a while. Definitely I would go the vet tomorrow. Sometimes if a long term diabetic suddenly starts dropping low, there are complicating factors.
