Amethyst 02/15/2020 PRAYERS PLEASE!!

Marje just called me Thank GOD DKA test negative,Pancreatitis test negative BUT very high Ketones. Thank you!:bighug::bighug::bighug:
The vet said it seems like gastroenteritis. Actually, if I said very high ketones, I misspoke as the vet said the ketones were just a bit moderate. Still...ketones are ketones and if they are more than a trace, a vet needs to be seen so I’m glad you got her there so quickly, Pamela. It kept them from getting worse. We don’t really know what caused the ketones and the vet seemed as flummoxed on that one as I am. Gasteroenteritis does not usually cause ketones to develop and Amethyst was certainly receiving enough insulin (although i’ve seen one or two cats in normal numbers with ketones). It’s possible the eye infection is the culprit but we probably won’t know.

Let this be a good lesson for everyone. Keep testing those ketones every couple of days even if numbers are normal! It can happen that ketones can develop even in normal numbers!!
