Hey guys

I'm so scared. Tomorrow is Ambees xray to see if her stones have dissolved, if they haven't she will need surgery, and we cannot afford it. I've tried care credit etc. I don't know what I will do if they say she needs it........
I'm so worried :(

Thank you <3
The vet assistant just told me it's possibly they could do a payment plan. I'm just worried if the woman who's in charge of that says no, then what?
:(

Beg. (Not being flippant here; I've had to do it in the past for my little ones when I was in dire financial straits.)

Hopefully it won't come to that. I'm sending a sincere prayer for a positive decision. :bighug:

Even if they do a payment plan I won't be able to afford it. I'm sos cared we'reg oing to have to put her down

We're all pulling for you, Nicole. Mogs is right. It would be a hard heart that wouldn't dissolve at tears over an owner's distress at potentially losing a beloved pet. Begging is good . If you have children, take them with you. How many vets can turn away a sweet child's tearful face.

If the girl (vet tech, receptionist?) said they MIGHT do a payment plan, they probably will. Of course, any business isn't going to offer payment plans right up front: they're hoping for a flat-out payment that fills their coffers immediately. But the very fact that it was mentioned, was a tip off that they may work with you. If they've done it in the past, they might do it again.

If you have tried Care Credit, it means you were hopeful that they would take you on. And they are nothing more than a structured payment plan. Perhaps eight months is too short a time? The vet might be a little more generous and stretch the payments out over a year. Don't give up. It's not over till it's over.

Also, you could volunteer services..clean kennels and cages, dust and mop the reception room, wash windows and floors for a while, things like that. Perhaps the vet will let you take on a payment plan PLUS do a little work for them on the side. It's worth it to take that kind of leap. Lots of people have fallen on hard times, and these services can be surprisingly sympathetic.

Check out Facebook, Twitter, and Google. Even places like the Salvation Army. Key in "Emergency assistance for families who need help with vet bills." Don't leave a stone unturned, even at this late hour. Check the local SPCA tomorrow, too. More and more, authorities who have the ability to help families consider pets to be important for families' morale, especially if there are children involved.

They will ask some questions to make sure you really need help, but what the heck. It's for your pet, right?

We'll all send our prayers up tonight, hoping for a wonderful outcome. Bless you and your kitty.

Ok so.
They haven't all dissolved BUT she's down to about half the amount of stones she had a month ago. So the diet is working. She's going for another xray in a month to see if they dissolve completely if not. Surgery will be in order. At that time she will also get a few specialized tests due to her calcium being elevated consistently.

I'm soooooooo glad to hear the great news that Ambee's bladder stones are dissolving!!!!!! :D

Fingers and paws crossed that the diet will dissolve the rest over the next few weeks.

NICE!!
quick story-
many years ago (13 yrs) my guy had 3 stones-- we went and did the surgery and there was 2 stones-
If I had waited maybe he would have had 0 stones…. I wish I had waited :(
AND he is male so he passed 1 without me knowing so it could not have been too horrible as I pay very close attention to him…
paws and fingers and toes crossed for you! GO AWAY stones!!!

Bad news.
They haven't dissolved.

The vet said since Ambee is a girl (less chance of blocking) and isn't showing any sign at all of pain or symptoms that I could wait and not do anything. That I know the signs and if she shows them I know to bring her in. Or I could do the surgery (which I cannot afford right now)...

I'm very angry with myself. I just wanted them to go away. I'm so upset. What kind of owner gets themselves in this position that they cannot do the surgery?
I want what's best for her. I think ill be selling my guitar and piano to put towards her surgery. I don't think its fair to her to wait for it to get bad.

I'm beside myself.

Nicole, do not beat yourself up! You took Ambee to the vet when she was unwell and got her looked at and tried the conservative treatment. That's a lot more than a lot of pet parents do. Ambee is fine right now and you have time to save some cash and if you want to go ahead with the surgery, there are places to get some financial assistance. HERE is a link with some information.

Unfortunately my dad lost his job. My mom cannot work due to degenerative disc disease, and I'm full time student and can't work because I'm in school A lot.
We were declined care credit because my parents don't make a steady income. Pet insurance is off the table and my credit company won't increase my limit.
I also live in Canada so lots of the fundraising companies arent an option.

has she done a round of AB?
I still think had I done AB sooner I may not have had stones or to as bad---

I'm just really upset with myself. I'm a big champion of being able to afford the pets you own and things haven't been going well.
I will sell all I own before I get rid of her though.
And... She's still in remission so that's a plus! Ever since May!

Oh Nicole, I'm so sorry but I still don't think you should be beating yourself up. You love and care for Ambee and are doing what you can which is far more than many cats get. Since you are in Canada, (I am too!) check into the Farley Foundation. They assist with vet medical expenses and as a student pet parent with no income, they might just be the answer to your needs.

Thank you. I'm trying to stay positive. Just disappointed.
My three babies have had issues in the past three months. One just had emergency surgery for his teeth. He needed three out. He's fine now.
Our youngest needs 4 teeth out in a few weeks.
So for the first time ever I have to put our other before ambee. Ambee has always come first but our youngest really needs her teeth out. It's starting to affect her appetite. So it has to be done.

I'll check that foundation out. thank you!

Nicole, that is just more proof of what a good pet parent you are. I just had a dental done for my little sugar and can well understand how having one never mind two needing dental work can drain any money available for pet care. Fingers crossed the Farley Foundation can help you out!:bighug:

All of us have found ourselves short when a loving pet needed expensive care. Maybe you can work something out with your vet. Maybe, sign a promissory note and pay off the debt over a period of months. The worst they can say is no. Give it a try! Good luck from Jane and Stewey

Definitely don't beat yourself up - it achieves nothing.. and you're clearly a most caring cat mom!!
Work out a plan if you can and your idea of selling things isn't bad. I'm still in debt with my vet, but we've agreed on a payment plan together where it's manageable. And so far I've sold a sofa and a kitchen table to help pay. You can do it, it all adds up!!
