My kitty Leo had a mild IBD flare up recently. At the specialist's he had blood work up done along with a UA. His lab values were all great numbers, including his glucose. He has never had numbers like these. I just can't believe what taking him off dry food and losing some weight has done even though his single protein duck canned food is not the absolute best in low carbs. Not sure if the probiotics has helped the numbers but- who knows? I just wish I would have realized a long time ago how bad dry food is for some cats, especially those that are already over weight. I just had to share this - his numbers in the past have always been so out of whack with what they should be. Even his cholesterol went way down and he wasn't even fasting at the time.

Excellent news for you and Leo!

We're both happy campers right now. Of course he has no idea why I'm so elated. It's just been such a long haul with his health ever since I adopted him from the shelter and years of getting most probably the wrong food. I'm wondering if I should still periodically test his glucose at home? His diabetes was transient, but there is a chance it could return.

I would test at least once a month ....more often if you see any signs of the diabetes returning like increased drinking, peeing, hunger or loss of weight you weren't trying to lose

A 2nd remission is harder than the first, so you want to catch it early if he's coming out

I will be testing at least once a month now. I sure don't want to go through all this again if I can help it especially if a second remission is harder. Keeping a good eye on his weight too.
