I had joined the Feline Diabetes page on Facebook thinking it was related to FDMB, so when it was down we had a place to post questions if needed. Is this directly related to FDMB? If not, is there a place that is?

THis is the primary location for FDMB. To me, the Facebook page is more suited to when the board is down, general support, and pointing folks here.

It certainly doesn't have the same "tone" that the board does, joined up when the forum was down and have been rather disappointed in some of the participants lack of respect or support of each other on the FD FB page. The forum however has been priceless resource, very supportive, optimistic and a great resource I would send anyone to!! :)

Hi Kris and Harley!!

I try to help over in the Facebook group too, but have been disappointed in the "tone" used by certain people over there too.

I don't know what I would have done without the great people here on the Message Board when China was diagnosed. I've learned so much, and everyone here has been kind, respectful and most of all, informative.

I hope you'll enjoy it here, and we'll all be happy to help in any way we can with getting Harley under control....and maybe even off the juice at some point!!

Hi Kris!
I'm the silly top-hatted mouse on fb FD group. I try to help a bit over there too with just general things but I don't like that part of it either...no need for it, just makes hurts worse and drives people/cats away.

HUGS,

Actually with the GREAT help from FDMB we got Harley off the juice in three months from dx (within the last few days)!! I have to update my sig that he's OTJ!! I cannot express my gratitude in finding this wonderful resource.

I was hesitant to say it, but some of the participants on the FD FB page seem rather "catty" (no pun intended) and seem to be looking for a debate, fight, criticism, which is so counterproductive. Enough to make me want to avoid it, unless the forum is down :) I've not seen that at all on this forum, only very supportive, optimistic and caring people...great place to be!! :)

Some people dont like using boards and are more comfortable with facebook.. but I think the "chatty" nature of facebook reveals more personalities and the impersonal nature of text/words with no body language can be easily misunderstood... Really the board is the place to come though.

For example did you know I have a scottish accent ? ;) Dont type with one though.

Hi Kris! Again, congratulations on Harley being OTJ :-D Gosh yes--do add that to your signature, along with Harley's OTJ Video! I hear ya on the gratitude in finding THIS wonderful resource--with the love, compassion, support, kind words, vines and prayers of others, Gobbles' FD was manageable and he, too, went OTJ. I still hang here; not as much as pre-remission, though.

The FD FB...hmmm...sad to say, but there are some on there that have nothing better to do than hurt others, have ridiculous debates, judge others and stick their noses where they don't belong; very disheartening that there are some truly miserable people there; I've prayed for a certain few today  I rarely post there anymore. Just recently, a very dear, compassionate, generous and grieving friend of mine was hurt immensely...and it was all so unwarranted.

We are here to help each other; be it FDMB or FD FB. I try to help others, to the best of my knowledge. I fear that the rude comments/fighting/criticizing/debates/one-upmanship at the FB group may turn some people off to this wonderful site....who really need help.

I pray the poison doesn't spread here to FDMB...thank goodness for our moderators (I don't believe there are moderators in the FD FB group).

At the beginning of August, this board crashed and was unavailable for most of a couple days. At that time, an emergency board was quickly created and set up by Donna, and people were able to communicate once they "found it".

If that sort of thing ever happens again, the board is still there. So here's a link to save "just in case" this board goes offline for any length of time.

I just wanted a place for people to go to if the board goes down(thanks Carl for posting the link, computer crashed and I lost my links). I try and encourage people to come to the MB and will help people with starting hometesting and food but ultimately, I send them here (at least I hope they come here). I dont like people trying to give dosing advice or being judgmental on FB and it happens alot. Not everyone knows it all and some think they do. I really wish we had a pinned posts at the top of the FB group directing people here and advising that no dosing advise will be given on FB. I think the thing is that alot of people come on FB looking for help and find our group and then get bombarded with info and criticism and then are afraid they will get the same thing here. I also wish there was a way for people to know who we are on the FDMB and on FB so they can at least have a reference to who they are talking to.

At least the board has been pretty good lately (fingers crossed).

A few of those negative nellies make their way into every group, weather on FB or here on the FDMB. It's sad, that some people feel it's ok to be so disrespectful and negative and dismissive of others feelings and 'do it my way'. There is no need to be hurtful. Park your ego at the door, and let's get on with helping the cats and their caregivers.

None of us is perfect, and sometimes we do get too passionate about an aspect of treating this disease. Mine was dry food, but I think I have mellowed out a bit, and will suggest whatever might work for the person struggling to get their cat to eat.

There is no one true way. What works for one person and cat, may not work for another. Or in other words, our mantra ECID. ;-)

I think you guys have ALL been absolutely fantastic, patient and go way above and beyond any group I have ever worked with about anything. It was a sheer blessing to find it, which actually happened on accident for me when searching for more info on feline diabetes. I have had opinions given, but they have all been very constructive and based on their experiences, which I value and welcome...nothing said just for the sake of proving a point or arguing on here, which is wonderful. :-D

THANK YOU for the other link, good to know!!

My heart goes out to your friend who lost her kitty, may her heart heal....
