AlphaTrak2 strips OK for AlphaTrak meter?

Hi, another desperate question (a crazy week and my vet's office never seems to know the answer to my questions).

My old AlphaTrak meter that I bought when Pasha had diabetes in 2010-11 seems to work fine now with a new battery.

My vet's office sold me a new box of test strips, but now I realize they are AlphaTrak2 strips. Will these work correctly with the "plain" (not "2") AlphaTrak meter?

Thank you!! I wrote to the company to find out but I"m not sure how long it'll take them to answer.

Hi Nancy! I seem to remember something about having to change the code you need to program into the meter. So, I did a search and found this information on the Alphatrak website.

AlphaTRAK 2 test strips can be used with the original gray AlphaTRAK meter. It is important
to note that code 7 must be used to obtain accurate readings when using AlphaTRAK 2
test strips with the original gray AlphaTRAK meter.

Hi Deb, thank you so much! I know I posted a reply to you earlier today, but it's not showing up.

I did look on the Abbott site but obviously didn't look far enough! Thank you for digging up that info. Great to know.

What's not great is that I set it to code 7, got my bottle of fresh control solution in the mail today, so I know the meter is working right--and his BG was 455. Aaack! Well, he's still only a week in, on one unit. Back to the doc tomorrow.

Thank you again SO MUCH--it's such a relief to find such helpful people here, when I seem to be having trouble getting the info I need from the vet's office and from manufacturers. You guys rock!!

Glad that information on the test strips was helpful to you. Sorry to see you are still getting some high readings. It takes time to get a cat regulated so this is where patience is required. One of our sayings here on the message board is "This is a marathon, not a sprint." It took time for your cat to become diabetic, it will take time to get your cat feeling better.

Would you be willing to add some little tidbits of information to your User Control Panel, Profile tab, Edit Signature block? It would really help us to help you better with these little bits of information at our fingertips. It's nice to see your name and kitties name, diagnosis date, insulin used and meter used, food being fed, any complicating medical conditions your cat may have like IBD or CRF. Sure hope you are willing to add this information for us to see.
