hi, I opened a new batch of alphatrak test strips and did a comparison with those, my old strips which are 5 months out of date and my new freestyle lite.
I got new alphatrak 7.9/142
old alphatrak 8.2/148
freestyle lite 8.8/158

Really I've got 2 questions, is it ok to use the out of date strips, I used them in an emegency when I was waiting for my first batch of new ones, and when I use the freestyle lite, how do I calculate the reading as it's probably lower than they show? My current alphatrak are code 37 old ones are code 38 so is it worth trying the freestyle lite on both codes?

Most of the time, 3 months is about as long as the strips are good for, but for backup, I'd think they'd be OK

All 3 of those results are basically the same number...ALL meters are allowed up to a 20% variance from the results you'd get compared to professional lab equipment

Can't help with the coding question since I've never used an AT with the right strips or the Freestyle strips

Hi-
I have used all of the above-
I would personally use the code for the AT strips that is on the bottle but for the freestyle I would leave the 37 or 38 (whichever is programmed)
Like Chris said they are all basically the same number.
I have done tons of side by sides with AT and FS and they were all pretty close (either spot on or within 20ish)
I have used out of date strips with no issues --just be sure they are kept in room temp and the container is closed tightly.

thanks both of you, when I start on the freestyle I will try both codes and see what the difference is and what is closer to the alphatrak number. The out of date strips seemed fine when I used them when he first went out of remission so as long as I'm getting sensible numbers I will use them up, x

Hello,
I my Bengal cat Malachai just recently got diagnosed. I purchased the AT2 as my vet suggested but have been reading the Freestyle Lite strips are more cost effective. I just set up my AT2 last night and programmed it with the code 7 as directed. Did you figure out what number to use on the AT2 when using the Freestyle Lite strips? I would like to purchase the FL as they are more budget friendly, I'm just not sure if I need to re-program my AT2 and if so, what number? Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou! Deena and Malby

To use FS strips in your AT2 meter, just leave the AT meter at whatever cat code you last used with AT strips. Do a test with your AT control solution on an FS strip when you first open a new vial to be sure it's reading in the right range. For the first few ear pokes, aim to do comparison tests using an AT and an FS strip on the same drop of blood. Record the data so you have a guide as to how much difference you get.

If you look at my guy's SS you'll see there's a sheet where I've logged all my results from comparison testing. You can also see that the % difference in readings is small. I strongly recommend that you do your own tests so you have your own data going forward.

If you have more questions about this you'll get attention more quickly if you start your own thread. As it is your concern is buried in someone else's thread. :)

Thankyou! I also JUST noticed that Amazon sent me the original AT and NOT the AT2. is there a huge difference? I've read that since the AT2 is newer the new strips might not work as well on the older Unit? I'm going to try and reach out to Amazin right now to get the AT2 as that's what I thought I would be buying but would the FSLite strips work on the original AT? Thanks!

I have an AT2 and don't know the answer to this.
